    The French Quarter

I just spent the last few days in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

It is an absolute $#@!-hole. Bourbon street smells like urine and feces. It might be something worth seeing one time, but there’s no reason to justify a second visit.

The music is nothing but mediocre cover bands. We have much better blues and jazz clubs in Seattle and Tacoma. Most of the bands I saw would be playing in small taverns in my area.

It has a very third world vibe. The food off bourbon street was good in places.

It has a very interesting history, but that’s about it.

I was in New Orleans in 1970, the french quarter was fantastic, walk in any bar and you got free shrimp that were just HUGE and free crawfish, just order a beer. Everyone was friendly and smiling and it was fun just to walk around. Around 2001 one of my daughters went there and said she didnt like it at all and it was nothing like I described. I said well it was 30 yrs ago and now its 48 yrs ago.

Evidently a lot has changed since 1970.

You may be too pretty for the FQ.
I am tired of everyone fighting with each other. This is all by design.

    .

Parts of it are pretty cool. A lot of great history.

It’s not all the French Quarter or Ninth Ward.

I'd like to see the parades and do the pub crawl thing at least once in NOLA.

Where did you stay? Did you see any other parts of the city / surrounding area?

We stayed at the Grand Sonesta on Bourbon Street. I mainly saw the French Quater, Garden and Warehouse districts. I was looking for food and music. I was disappointed in the music. Especially on Bourbon street. Nothing but mediocre cover bands.

The best music I heard was a couple of street musicians a few blocks off Bourbon Street.

The most interesting band I saw was a four piece group called the Cajun Drifters. They were playing on Bourbon Street at a place called The Bayou Club. For some reason the Cajun music got my attention.

I have no plans or need to go back.
