Haspel represents a continuation of the failed status quo and the one-dimensional thinking of "conservative" Republicans who see violence and intimidation as the only solution to almost every problem.
Except their "solution" hasn't worked. Seventeen years later, AQ is larger and more extensive than ever. Iran remains as defiant as ever. Hezbollah is basically the government of Lebanon now. Iraq is firmly in Iran's orbit. Large swaths of Iraq, Libya, and Syria are swarming with anti-western militants and terrorists. The Taliban controls most of Afghanistan.
Haspel and her ilk represent repeated and massive failure. Their policies have cost this country trillions and trillions of dollars while shattering whatever good will towards America might have remained.
But "conservative" Republicans don't care about results. They only care about looking and sounding tough. Oh, and lavishing trillions of dollars on the military-industrial complex. No doubt, many of the "conservatives" who frequent this forum have profited from the US government's profligate spending on "national security". That is their main compulsion for supporting endless war. Patriotism, defense, etc., these are nothing more than pretexts meant to obfuscate their selfish motives.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.

And how's that been working for us?
Seventeen years of bombing, torturing, invading, threatening, occupying and what do we have to show for it? Trillions of dollars in additional debt? Thousands upon thousands of dead bodies? Entire countries destabilized and overrun with America's enemies?
When will "conservative" Republicans admit that their one-dimensional, adolescent fixation on violence and intimidation isn't working?

This is just a continuation of the status quo, represented by both parties. You'll notice Democrats did nothing to stop this. One would assume, that after eight years of the Obama administration bombing and destabilizing entire countries, you'd be used to this sort of thing by now.

She is qualified to run the Dept. That should be the only criteria. Most people think she is the most qualified person for the job.

She did get seven Democrat votes, I was surprised to see that. Disappointed that Flake and Paul voted no.
