Both Manifort and Gates were charged with conspiracy against the United States. Not to mention the meeting attended by Kushner, Donald Trump Jr and a known Russian operative.

So so while I haven't seen evidence of Trump colluding with Russia, there is evidence of a strange relationship between his staff and Russian agents.
Manafort operated an international political consulting business. That is perfectly legal. If he tried to hide revenue from the IRS, that isn't. But that has nothing to do with the campaign. I forget who started it, but there is a very large corporation staffed by ex-flag ranked officers who offer strategic advice to foreign governments. Their aim is to train foreign armies in the same manner the US does. There is nothing nefarious about this.

The investigation isn't into collusion, but rather how Russia interfered in the election.

Crimes were committed. That's why charges have been filed and why some have pled guilty.

Claiming the investigation is a diversion or a witch hunt is simply a conspiracy theory.

What I find ironic is that many of the people crying witch hunt had no issue with the 7 Benghazi investigations. The same investigations found Clinton innocent and yet they claim she is guilty.
Outside of the indictments of the Russian troll farm, there have been nothing related to collusion. They are process crimes. In one FBI interview you say the car was red. In another interview you say maroon. The FBI agents and even Comey said Flynn did not lie, yet a tool like Muller calls it lying to federal agents.

I have said this before- I did a bit of time as a military magistrate, and I shut $#@! like this down fast and often.

We do know that the statutes applicable to appointing special councils require an underlying criminal statute. Where is the criminal statute on "collusion?"

The left seems to be crowing about these indictments and guilty pleas, but none of them are even remotely connected to the collusion meme. Not even the Russian troll farm. There's more which connects them to the DNC and Clinton campaign than there is to the Trump campaign.

If Manafort did try to hide income to evade taxes ten years ago, why wasn't that discovered then?

I'll bet it is discovered that the so called "scope memo" was written after the investigation was underway. Maybe just a couple of months ago.

It is easy to evade the IRS in this way- unless someone rats you out.
