The answer is obvious. No one is responsible for building. No one is responsible for bringing in new members.

Posts like the above is a good part of the reason why. I am not political and I am not an American, so I am not a part of the political right or left, but I just turn off when I read people going on about 'the right' or 'the left', as though millions of people think exactly alike. That is neither informative nor constructive, and not the reason I come here.
    We can disagree.

Sorry Peter - I'm sure you know I have loads of respect for you; but that sort of partisan opinion only perpetuates the problems current on this board. An echo-chamber for one sort of political view is neither interesting nor informative. I think you are better than that.

    It's Chris.

If you want, I can go into the history of the left's rise to arrogance.

Instead, let me add that the right, and not just the right but libertarians like myself, are encouraged to rise up and resist the left because the people are sick and tired of the left and want change, as signalled by the election victory of Trump--and I don't even like the man, his style, but his style has put an end to the pretense of the left.

And add that I'm not sure what you expect on a political forum but political wrangling.

AFIK, a forum gains new members mainly by what people read on that board - that's what happened with me. I lurked on many boards for yonks, and decided that what this board was back then - was right for me. It's not like that board any more - or maybe it's just that I'm much older now and can see things I never saw before.

Of course we can, but it's how we disagree which makes the difference. I don't always agree with all your ideas, but I consider you to be an intelligent man from whom I can learn a lot, and I would not be rude to you even if we disagree on some things.

I guess I need to be an American living in your society to properly understand your point of view, but I think all this 'the right' and 'the left' is both simplistic and presumes to know exactly what millions of people think - it comes across as just lazy. And one day, you must explain to me (in terms a European can understand) what exactly a libertarian is.

But what I expect on a political forum is an exchange of ideas in a respectful manner. Nobody is convinced by being being attacked or abused, and not many people are that interested in someone else's slanging match.

America does not have a parliamentary system, where parties take seats in the legislature based on the % of vote they got. We have separate elections for each seat - that tends to lead to 2 major parties, however each party is made up of many subgroups- many of which would be separate parties in a parliamentary system.

There is a small minority that have given up on the two party system and vote third party. Hopefully that movement continues to grow.
