I don't see cruise control as giving up control to a machine. All it does is maintain my desired speed. Not to mention most cruise control gives you the ability to accelerate or decelerate with buttons on the wheel.

I like to use it on long road trips. It gives my legs a rest.

I get that...but to me I'm still in control.

They should clarify that. I think they might mean put it in neutral and stop as fast as you can (with the engine screaming) and put it in park. Seems to me that you could turn the ignition off and pull over or even try hitting "minus" button till it slows down.

I use cruise control all the time and have for many years.

It's not really faith. Virtually all our controls in vehicles are by wire. I'm simply changing the accelerator control from my foot to my thumb.

I only use use it in specific conditions though.

I like it because you don't have to worry about the speed creeping up or down and having to look at the speedometer all the time allowing you to keep your eyes on the road more.

I don't really feel like I'm giving up control, all it does is suppress my natural instinct to go faster.

Yep, and also, when you hit resume, it gets you up to speed far more smoothly and efficiently than any human ever could. I'm pretty sure it's how I average almost 21 mpg in a full sized pick up with a 5.3 liter V-8.
