Fiat Chrysler warns 4.8M owners: Don't use the cruise control

Personally I think Chrysler is one of the worst vehicles made, it got worse after fiat bought them. Chrysler consistently has the worst repair records in the industry. The make great looking vehicles that break regularly.

Fiat Chrysler is recalling 4.8 million vehicles in the U.S. because in rare but terrifying circumstances, drivers may not be able to turn off the cruise control.
The company is warning owners not to use cruise control until the cars, SUVs and trucks can be fixed with a software update.

    Fiat Chrysler
says the condition can occur if the cruise control accelerates at the same time an electrical short-circuit happens. But the brakes are designed to overpower the engine and the vehicles could still be stopped. Shifting into park would cancel the cruise, but tapping the brakes or turning off the cruise control button won’t work.

The problem was found in testing of the vehicles’ computer network. FCA says it has no reports of crashes or injuries. After the testing uncovered the trouble, FCA said it reviewed consumer complaints and found one that may be related.

In the complaint filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an owner from Olathe, Kansas, said a 2017 Dodge Journey SUV rental vehicle was being driven about 70 miles per hour with the cruise control on when the windshield wipers came on by themselves and the throttle locked up.

I wonder if Toyota or their distributor made the device? They lost a billion, hopefully Chrysler gets a quick fix and Americans continue to build autos. I realize free market snowflakes are anti American, years of propaganda created their minds but if Americans don't support local how they gonna maga?

I've been in a car with a stuck cruise control, but I was "young and dumb" so it seemed like fun. Not so much for my mom ( the driver) and my sister, an adult at the time who kept saying "I can't die I have kids"

If going 70+mph, what would happen if you suddenly shifted into park?

I love using cruise control on long trips. I've had no issues with my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Clear as mud. I was just messing with you man. My wife never uses it either.

Without cruise control, I would likely have multiple tickets, lol.

I can't give up cruse control to the machine. I do have an SUV so I drive much slower than when I had a sports car.
