This is how I protect my computer and its served me well for a long time.

I run bitdefender Internet Security, I believe its a superb program that merges flawlessly with windows. I run malwarebytes at startup and it runs perfectly along side bit defender.

I run CCleaner more than once a day and SuperAntiSpyware program. I am a registered user of all of those.

I also run some freeware, adwcleaner and ATFcleaner

I also have specific addons I use within Firefox

Since running what I do, I have had zero infestations on my system or any virus' at all.

Just a warning, I discovered CCleaner is Chinese owned and has been linked with industrial espionage. I also deleted Pandora once China bought it.

Ccleaner is owned by Piriform whos parent company is Avast and british owned, it is not owned by chinese. What you were reading about was an attack on Ccleaner by a chinese hacking group. Read the below article
