Woman escapes abusive boyfriend by slipping note to dog’s vet

A Florida woman escaped the clutches of her abusive, gun-toting boyfriend by passing a note to an unlikely rescuer — a worker at her dog’s veterinary office, authorities said.
After enduring two days of beatings and gunpoint threats at the hands of convicted felon Jeremy Floyd inside their DeLand home, battered Carolyn Reichle finally convinced him to let her bring their dog to the vet, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Floyd, 39, agreed — though he insisted on going with her, loaded gun in hand, officials said.
On the ride over, Floyd threatened to kill Reichle and her family, authorities said.
When they arrived at DeLand Animal Hospital, the 28-year-old Reichle covertly slipped a handwritten note to a worker.
“Call the cops. My boyfriend is threatening me. He has a gun,” the note read. “Please don’t let him know.”
The worker quietly alerted the authorities, who showed up, seized the gun, and cuffed Floyd, officials said.

He’s being held without bail in Volusia County Branch Jail on a slew of charges, including domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, and false imprisonment.

Deputies brought Reichle to an area hospital, where she was treated for a head injury, a black eye, and bruises up and down her arms.

The rescue brought an end to 48 hellish hours for Reichle that began when Floyd beat her up Wednesday night, according to authorities.

He will get much more than that in jail.

There are a bunch of techniques that victim advocates try to educate the public about. A while back there was a lot of noise about putting a black dot on your hand, but if everyone knows that method than probably so does the abuser. Slipping a note to someone in public is really the only safe way that I can think of.

    Great for her.
The offender will get a very long prison time. Modern US Justice system is harsh enough.

But wishing abuse and rape on anyone is wrong. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson fought for the Bill of Rights. Prior to that, under English Law many people were sentenced to severe beatings.

I would advocate that this woman and her family own, carry and be proficient in the use of a handgun. This creep will get out one day.

Whatever happens to him in prison is not my concern.
