Post Obama warns that America may not survive.

    From the great divider himself:

    Obama said:
I think the big challenge we have today is how do we maintain a sense of common purpose rather than splinter or divide.

We are seeing this debated on social media every day, but if we don’t figure it out then our society and democracy may not survive.”

He has a point, but because it was Obama who said it, some people will find a way to disagree with it.

Anyway, Obama's observation, while fairly accurate, is somewhat trivial from my perspective. The US (which he confuses with America) has always been characterized by deep divisions. From the very beginning, the founders split into at least two distinct factions: The Hamiltonian "Federalists" and the Jeffersonian "Republicans", a split that was determined largely according to underlying geographic factors. This nascent division simmered for decades before it finally boiled over into the "civil war" where, in order to "save" the "union", the US government invaded and occupied the southern States, resulting in death and destruction on an enormous scale. In other words, the only way this so-called "union" could be kept together was through brute force. And on a fundamental level, nothing has changed since then. The States remain "united", not because the people have common interests and values, but because greedy oligarchs force them to remain in a dysfunctional and hateful political marriage.

So Obama's main mistake is to assume that America, such as it is, ever had a "common purpose" in the first place. That is clearly not the case now, nor was it the case in the past, so to opine on the maintenance of this fraternal sentiment between Americans is plainly chimerical.

Even the Civil War did nothing to unite this nation. the end result was division. Instead of welcoming the union, the North treated the South, their own nation, to ruination and destruction, then pillaged what was left, AND completely ignored the situation they created by freeing the slaves. The North did not want the slaves to live among them and treated them just as badly as the plantation owners.
Obama was a "slave holder" in almost every sense of the word.

It's not going to survive. The West is going to blow up some point soon, figuratively, the differences of opinion are too polarizing, and the state has become too big and corrupt.

The north fought against slavery in much the same way the Bush administration invaded Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction. Many Americans are just too naive to see it.

no..........I'm no apologist. I merely state the facts as history will bear the truth of it.
I still maintain that the Civil War also was about real estate and shipping ports...both of those things were more important than slavery was an issue.
