Democracy is not dead...... It never lived!

Most Americans in this nation believe that we live in a Democracy. But the truth is that we live in a Republic. Most Americans believe that our forefathers had our best interests in mind and had a great love for us and for Democracy.

The truth is that the founders loathed democracy they were elitists and believed that the common man was not good enough to have any say in governance. These sentiments are true to this day.

It is thought that we are not smart enough to vote so we are given the illusion of voting so that we feel we live in a democracy and have a say.

We are heavily campaigned to, and given promises by those we elect. Becasue they are governing on our behalf they are supposed to live up to the promises that they gave. Instead they open up non profit companies and recieve dark donations that cannot be traced by the corporations. They then once elected do not stay true to the promises and work soley on behalf of those who keep funneling the money into their pockets.

Their system may have been ok, if those we elected were worthy, and had morals and were genuine human beings and had our best interests in mind. But it is the farthest from the truth.

Democracy has never lived! Our government is run on money and corruption and the highest bidder. Our money funnels up to the top lining the pockets of the wealthy. The wealthy live off the backs of the poor while complaining about the poor needing 10 dollars in food stamps when they themselves will take a penny out of a babies hand.

The citizens do not have a say in how anything is run or what they would like done with their tax dollars. They turn us against one another dividing us so that we will focus our hate on one another and let them continue their corruption in secret with a smile.

The citizens are told yes they do have a say by electing the one who will speak for you, but what do you do when his pockets are lined with dirty money? This is not the way this nation was meant to be run, it is run on pure corruption. They will spin any manner of lie to get elected because it is not about the money they will make from their job but the money they will make from the donors. But just like a hooker if you get the money you have to do something dirty in return. Only in this case it is us who are being pimped out by those who we trust to lead our nation with decency and integrity.

We are kept busy to the point of exhaustion so we don't ever stop to notice what has become of our nation.

We are told all men are created equal, but it is the furthest from the truth. We are being run by something akin to a caste system. But the people who believe they are the elites are not the decent aristocrat type they are criminals through and through. In their eyes we are not good enough for democracy and do not deserve a say in governance. Treating us like inferior animals who do not deserve a say in our governance. Yet they do not hesitate to take from your paycheck. They do not hesitate to take money for every purchase or transaction you make.

In the past our founders thought us not good enough to take part. But the leaders of today think a bit differently they are just taking advantage of the system much like a welfare program for the wealthy. They just want us to stay subverted and be good tax paying slaves.

Democracy is perhaps the worse form of government there is. Thank god our Founders gave us a republic.

A nation our size could not work as a direct democracy. Unless you place a lot of limits on what a citizen is.

"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter." Winston Churchill

"Democracies have great rational and imaginative powers. They also are prone to some serious flaws in reasoning, to parochialism, haste, sloppiness, selfishness, narrowness of the spirit. Education based mainly on profitability in the global market magnifies these deficiencies, producing a greedy obtuseness and a technically trained docility that threaten the very life of democracy itself, and that certainly impede the creation of a decent world culture." Martha Nussbaum

Interesting OP and I agree with its basic assumptions, call our system either but it is only the people and the powers that make it good or bad, make it work for some or all. The republicans have always (?) been the party of the elite and powerful, the democrats starting with FDR, the party of inclusion and common economic sense. That break in values has caused the cultural and social wars since. Money and power spoil the stew, the Bible got that one right. I often wonder where right wingers get their education and if you read enough you realize there is (dark) money behind their fantasies as the bold above points out. See 'Invisible Hands' for a history of that training, and see 'White Trash' for the elitist republican brand of nation.

"Great inequality is the scourge of modern societies. We provide the evidence on each of eleven different health and social problems: physical health, mental health, drug abuse, education, imprisonment, obesity, social mobility, trust and community life, violence, teenage births, and child well-being. For all eleven of these health and social problems, outcomes are very substantially worse in more unequal societies." Richard Wilkinson/Kate Pickett http://www.equalitytrust.org.uk/why/evidence

    Another thought:

"Whether and how the marriage of polyarchal democracy to market-capitalism can be made more favorable to the further democratization of polyarchy is a profoundly difficult question for which there are no easy answers, and certainly no brief ones. The relation between a country's democratic political system and its nondemocratic economic system has presented a formidable and persistent challenge to democratic goals and practices throughout the twentieth century. That challenge will surely continue in the twenty-first century." Robert A. Dahl

We need to protect individual rights within any viable form of government. Kind of the opposite of what is happening here , now.

    Whatever that means.

I voted for the President, a Senator, a House member, a state Senator, a state House member, a County councilman, and a tax issue. Seems my democratic right to vote is pretty solid.

All of my rights are intact.

The intent of that was we're all created equal before the law, probably derived from being equal before God's law and applied to natural law, but the Declaration is a product of enlightened individualism, and as individuals we are all naturally different and will see different outcomes in the pursuit of happiness--and the Constitution is supposed to protect that individualism.

Not saying that's good, though it beats the modern collectivist solution.
Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire. ― Gustav Mahler
