Scientists claim they can convert CO2 from atmosphere to gas

Scientists claim they can convert CO2 from atmosphere to gas

I have long said that the warmist position on global warming was extremist. Even if we take their dire predictions as fact, science would fix the problem long before draconian political solutions would. And here we have an example of my predictions:

We can cheaply scrub the atmosphere of CO2 and turn it into fuel.

I wonder how the Paris Climate Accord folks are going to react to this- a non Statist solution to their pet problem.

A team of scientists claims to have discovered a cheaper way to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and turn it into gasoline or other fuels, which could arm humanity with a new tool in the fight against climate change.

Published in the scientific journal Joule on Thursday, the research demonstrates a new technique that pulls carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, and converts it into liquid gasoline, diesel or jet fuel.

Canadian clean energy company Carbon Engineering, in partnership with researchers from Harvard, used little more than limestone, hydrogen and air for the process, which can remove one metric ton of CO2 for as little as $94, the scientists say. It cleans up the environment, and produces eco-friendly liquid fuel at the same time.

"Until now, research suggested it would cost $600 per ton to remove CO2 from the atmosphere using DAC technology, making it too expensive to be a feasible solution to removing legacy carbon at scale," David Keith, Harvard Professor and founder of Carbon Energy said in a statement. "We now have the data and engineering to prove that DAC can achieve costs below $100 per ton."

DAC refers to "direct air capture" technology, or the technique by which Carbon Engineering extracts CO2 from air.

How long will it be before they start doing this on a large scale? (They need limestone; Florida has limestone mines.)

Counting on unproven techno-miracles is not rational, hence rational people don't do such things. We leaves such magical thinking to deniers.

It's also interesting that deniers say CO2 and warming isn't a problem, then they spin about and trumpet ways to remove CO2, essentially admitting that it is a problem.

I agree 100%. Using electricity it was possible to do so for over a century.

Solar Power will provide almost unlimited Electrical Energy to Humankind.

I have some knowledge in Chemistry and Physics.

Given that I have Depression, I can find depressive stuff everywhere.

Solar Power will bring a new Technological Revolution and a tremendous growth in Gross World Product. The sad part is that it would take decades for Solar Power to grow to a point where it replaces fossil fuel power sources. I am 47 -- so there will be a great Technological Revolution which will not benefit my generation.

STRATFOR has a good article today about renewables catching up to fossil fuels. I think they said renewables will power 30% of the needed global energy by 2040- and it will exponentially stronger and cheaper.

The captured CO2 will produce fuel. A at a competitive price.

They better get a move on! Britain is already cutting back on beer production, and farmers want some too. We're running low on C02!
News: Rich people paying rich people to tell middle class people to blame poor people.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

And fusion power will be here any day now.

Again, don't count on unproven technomiracles.

Please lay off the Luddite argument. We very well should have fusion by the end of the century. Prior to that we very well will be running on 80+% renewables for fuel (which are not techno-miracles- just as the process described in the OP is no such thing. If produces fuel today with CO2 scrubbed from the atmosphere.)
Even Fusion is theoretically possible. Not your techno-miracle.
