They prefer the judges to have the ability to be lenient when in their judgment it is appropriate. Every tiny thing goes into the exercise of that judgment. Usually, it's all set when the Defendant walks in but there's things that can turn it negatively. Act appropriately, dress appropriately.

Context in leniency has merit, but when it comes to the situation at hand and the possible circumstances around it, but kissing the courts ass and treating it like it's a house of worship and as if the judge is God is not one of them. If anything, more respect should be given to those who keep it real so to speak. The ones bowing to the court aren't doing so genuinely anyway, they're playing the game.

Showing respect for the system that you expect to judge you and levy judgment on you is not acting though the judge is God. It's showing respect for our legal system and those in it. Pelosi'ing all over it will not get you lenient treatment by one charged with the exercise of such judgment.

I was a witness one time. One defendant called the judge "dude"...............guess where he ended up?

It's nothing more than an ego trip. Half the time, the defendant in question is being falsely charged and more or less being extorted to begin with as it is, but get on your knees and maybe the almighty will grant you some leniency.

Well, there you go - "Half the time, the defendant in question is being falsely charged and more or less being extorted to begin with as it is"

That in and of itself says all I need to hear about your perspective. "Half the time, the defendant in question is being falsely charged and more or less being extorted to begin with as it is" A statement like that is absolutely incredible for someone to make. I am at the courthouse every day. Every work day. I talk to the judges, the lawyers representing these people. These people are trying to help these people. Yet, "Half the time, the defendant in question is being falsely charged and more or less being extorted to begin with as it is". Do you realize the bending over backwards breaks that criminal defendants get? The second, third, fourth chances? The cost to the taxpayers for the criminal justice system? The cost to those of us that get up every day and work our Pelosi off? yet, "Half the time, the defendant in question is being falsely charged and more or less being extorted to begin with as it is"

"Half the time, the defendant in question is being falsely charged and more or less being extorted to begin with as it is"

    Half the time
    Falsely charged.
    More or less being extorted.

Give me a break. You have no idea what you are talking about.

    Half the time
    Falsely charged.
    More or less being extorted.
That's correct. At least half the time, the defendant is either being harassed by the state over some petty bull$#@! or outright falsely charged, then they need to give an arm and a leg to hire one of you guys, which, of course, even if the defendant wins, the state doesn't compensate for the financial loss. Then to top it all off, to add insult to injury, the defendant needs to play the game and grovel, wear particular attire, address the judge as your honor as if he's a higher being or something, etc.

Would sure be nice if the system was cleaned up, if measures were taken to prevent against fraudulent lawsuits, if nonsensical crimes were done away with, if the state had to compensate those who were falsely charged, and if the justice system was actually about blind justice for all and about upholding the peace and not about pay to play, subsiding your industry at the direct expensive of peoples money and freedom, and about ego. But their is too much money to be made and too much of a power trip for that to ever happen.

You are wrong. All the way around, you are wrong. "At least half the time". You are wrong.

Yeah, I don't think so. And even if what you say is true, let's say it's not half, let's say it's a third or even a fourth of the time, the general point still stands.
