Let us simply agree that Canada is protecting its farmers and is pissed off because Trump wants to help our own farmers. It's amazing how liberals support foreigners over their own country.

Government actually has some need to encourage over production of food to bank against bad years. They have of course, gone over board with this concept and fed the factory farms and Monsanto and corn and wheat with it as well. Then there are the votes associated with the smaller farmers and local economies. Because even people who scoff at localism want THEIR kids to grow up with clean air and water and chemical free food in a place with a local economy strong enough to offer those kids a choice to stay if they want when they grow up. Still farm hand outs tend to decrease the impact of running a good farm and by definition keep production too high driving down the price. We should do the same for say stock brokers and other financial services . For urban products important to our economy , yet we don't. The difference? Power and control of course but also the farmers are important to the real base economy , the stock brokers run the fluff economy based upon emotion vs. real assets, liabilities and goodwill.

The Farmers and Agriculture Industries and animal industries are not just important, but vital. It is these people who I do not mind offering incentives, massive tax breaks, zero interest equipment loans, the farmers of this nations, those that fill my dinner plates...…..need incentives.
