US to withdraw from United Nations Human Rights Council.....

The U.S. will withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council, according to a report.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley are expected to make the announcement at a State Department event in Washington Tuesday evening, per Bloomberg.

Haley has been critical of the Geneva-based council, blasting it last week for trying to dictate how the U.S. should handle immigration amid widespread condemnation of President Trump's decision to enforce a zero tolerance policy of illegal border crossings resulting in an increase of family separations.

Vice President Mike Pence also used an address before the U.N. Security Council in September to lambaste the group for harboring an anti-Israel bias and becoming "a forum for anti-Semitism."

The body was established in 2006 "to promote and protect human rights around the world," according to its website, but has been hit with hypocrisy complaints given human rights violations reported in some of its member countries.....snip~

Now lets really put the UN on notice, and withdraw from the UN and their Hypocrisy. What say ye.

I would like to see the US completely withdraw from the UN and give them a time table to move the HQ.

Of course that will never happen.

That would be a mistake and would send a horrible message, in my opinion.

The UN and the human rights council are far from perfect, but to throw the baby out with the bath water is dumb.

I would be fine with staying as a non-paying member.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

No just members, but they rotate in and out of leadership positions.

Some of the biggest abusers of basic human rights sit on that council. But then I’m sure some people can blame America for that too.

Better to have them at the table than not.

Its hard to criticize Cuba and Venezuela when the US does business with Saudi Arabia.

Certainly the international community should put pressure on human rights violators. The UN is a good venue for that. Again, the UN is far from perfect, but it's better than nothing.
