The U.S. will withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council, according to a report.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley are expected to make the announcement at a State Department event in Washington Tuesday evening, per
Bloomberg.
Haley has been critical of the Geneva-based council, blasting it
last week for trying to dictate how the U.S. should handle immigration amid widespread condemnation of President Trump's decision to enforce a zero tolerance policy of illegal border crossings resulting in an increase of family separations.
Vice President Mike Pence also used an address before the U.N. Security Council
in September to lambaste the group for harboring an anti-Israel bias and becoming "a forum for anti-Semitism."
The body was established in 2006 "to promote and protect human rights around the world," according to its website, but has been hit with hypocrisy complaints given human rights violations reported in some of its member countries.....snip~
