Legitimate ESAs are not family pets, they come from organizations that specially train them. Arbitrarily banning certain species or breeds of animals is reactionary. Demanding proof that these animals are both trained and necessary is not. I doubt that peacocks and goats are chosen by the organizations that train support animals. There may also be situations where autistic children are calmer with a small pet, with which they relate better than they do with people. No doubt the parents can obtain a letter from a doctor to that effect, or whatever the airline requires. A rabbit or guinea pig in a small cage would be unlikely to be a huge imposition on passengers, who I am sure would rather not have the child becoming agitated and disturbing everyone.
Its a scam. Its like all Vietnam veterans were supposed to come back as drug addicts and unable to function. Either we have raised a generation of wimps or PTSD (long term) is a scam of the highest order. Why is the incidence of psychological disorders higher now then at any other time. Our military is 100% volunteer so it would seem to me that you would know what you are getting into when you join and would want to be part of that.

But lets not allow this thread to be turned into a discussion of the fake PTSD issue but the fact that now even dogs can trigger racist accusations. That was the point of the thread, not having to deal with $#@!s who pretend they can't cope.

Well said. I have seen it abused by people who get a note to keep their ESA in an apartment when pets are banned etc; but PTSD is real and these animals greatly help sufferers cope. PTSD is not a scam.

Besides, I think the entire "service animal" phenomenon is a fraud that allows snowflakes to say "Look at me, I'm special, I need a dog to keep me from going berserk"

That's different and is a demonstrable need. However, how many women have you seen with "service dogs". Do you think they are all combat veterans with PTSD? Would you hire someone who came to an interview with a service dog? The implication would be they had some emotional disorder and would either have a dog around them at all times or could easily be upset for some real or imagined incident.

No, the current rage about PTSD and service dogs is, like so much the left endorses, made up and nothing more than a way to gain symphathy and additional tax dollars.

Service dogs aside (because they should be highly trained to be certified).
Has everyone forgotten the "service pig" incedent? It woke up half way through the flight and proceeded to charge up and down the isle squealing and $#@!ting everywhere? I'd trade for a screeching infant anytime...just sayin'

You show me a 200lb infant charging up and down the isle (the pig actually threw the plane off balance), and I'll show you a... actually I don't know what, except maybe a page in Guinness' books.
