However bad a product may be, it's never good to take away someone's right to buy/use said product.

Besides, there is more than enough information out there that 'cigarettes are bad for you'. Supposedly, so is riding a motorcycle w/out a helmet, or driving w/out wearing your seatbelt. It's still my right/decision to do so.

But then you get into the whole argument whether or not the government should ban narcotics and other harmful substances.

Your positions happens to be that people are intelligent enough to make their own decisions.

My position is, at least when it comes to narcotics, is that there are some really stupid people out there.

Ah but then if we look at the issue of seat belts and mandatory seat belt laws, what right does the government have to monitor what I do with my life in my vehicle?

I am more comfortable accepting people violating the law and driving without seat belts than I am with the government decriminalizing heroin and making it available in "drug" stores. Because I recall how easy it was for myself and other teenagers to get liquor when we were underage I really do not want to make it easy for my niece or nephew to encounter heroin.

    If that makes any sense.

The government isn't interested in your safety or well-being. They are interested in passing laws and instituting regulations based on what they believe will draw in the most revenue under the GUISE of it being all for your benefit.

So the whole mandatory seat belt thing isn't because they want to keep me alive as a person but as a taxpayer.
