It has carcinogens in it too.

Somehow they don't seem to be nearly as harmful as cigarettes. Remember he government propaganda from what was it the 80's? Where they claimed one joint was a destructive as a whole pack of cigarettes? Anybody who smoked both, which at the time included me, knew that to be total bull$#@! . Don't listen to that source anymore. Later they revised it to four cigs but it still wasn't true. If it had been it wouldn't of mattered. Funny thing about people is lie to them enough and they just quit believing you. In fact by far the most deaths associated with MJ come from prohibition and therefore turf wars over illegal sales territory.
However, I would never condone smoking anything. We have much better ways to ingest MJ now for those who wish. Because no smoke is harmless. Not even campfire smoke , which most people can literally feel the next AM

Well, this is a contentious issue, and one has to posit that if the government picks up the cost for the healthcare for ailing individuals who smoked or drank until they became ill, then maybe the government has the right to ban such drugs.

However, the loss of revenue through sin taxes would be huge, therefore I don't see it happening until the revenue is eclipsed by the expenditure.

Well, the government being the people, why should the taxpayer foot the bill for the health care of the irresponsible?

The question is immaterial as they do now. You obviously have an opinion on the subject, but the reality is simply that governments provide health care to people unable to afford their therapy, if so, why should the taxpayer pay for self inflicted diseases? This being the case, does not the government have the right to determine whether these harmful drugs are available or not?

We make other drugs illegal, why not tobacco and alcohol? This is coming from an ex-heavy smoker and drinker.

So, can government say that snow skiing is a risky sport and you are forbidden from participating in risky activities? Where do you draw the line?

I think taking care of financing your health care should be your responsibility, not government’s.
