Exactly my point. A large occupation force isn't needed. NATO needs to remain in Afghanistan facilitating the Afghan Army and government. the purpose not to insert a western style democracy, the Afghans free to govern themselves. However, we're not going to allow a group labeled a terror organization by this country to govern any nation and begin nation state status world contribution, that will not happen.

We would continue to oppose Taliban rule and strike out at resurgence attempts by al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. ISIS...has joined the fray as well in Afghanistan. But has deep distrust of the Taliban.

More from Stephen Walt at Foreign Policy. I agree with Walt, there is no victory in Afghanistan for the US. I also agree about the mission creep he describes in the article.

But the US tends to allow mission creep to ruin its wars since WWII.

Not only is Afghanistan many generations or more from embracing democracy, if ever, the US keeps throwing money into that pit. It is quite insane.

Perhaps Trump will come around and end the charade that is Afghanistan.

Read the rest at the link.

At one point ALQ booked so we found a new enemy.

You are correct.....we aren't going to allow AQ nor Daesh to govern over any country. The Taliban would just be the showcase puppet.

Yeah and Daesh and AQ are killing each other in Afghanistan.

How badly would Afghanistan have to be destroyed before people stop supporting the interventions ( those starting in the 80's through today) that have clearly helped led to their decline.?
