This happened to a friend of mine a couple of years ago. His insurance company required him to put the dog down or they would not settle the claim. His dog was a Pit bull. I don’t know if that was a factor in the decision from the insurance co.

Maybe he just had to get rid of the dog.

That's too bad. And, it seems extreme.

My person is letting me use his log on i.d. and password again.

A Canine-American's natural instinct is to protect their territory and their people.

You think you have problems? There was a rather plump female hitchhiker camping under one of the picnic table shelters at the highway rest area. Well I found a rabbit and gave chase. The rabbit ran into the bushes right beside the picnic shelter and so did I. Kind of disturbed the hitchhiker's slumber. My person got a little upset and called me out of the bush and told me I should be a good citizen and not run into people's campsites after rabbits.

It was not a "campsite" it was a picnic table shelter which by the very name means it is not for someone to sleep under but to eat under.

Anyway I had to give up the chase and go home which meant the rabbit got away all because of someone who obviously could not afford a tent or Jenny Craig.

He did end up putting the dog down because the local humane society wouldn't take her because she was too aggressive and he couldn’t give her away.

Sorry the beached whale interrupted your chase, Zara.

If there's a history of aggression, I might agree? But, what's 'too aggressive'?

I had an Akita for 13 years. He was never not under my control when around anyone outside of my immediate household. I wasn't taking any chances with him. These 2 though... I must have missed where they turned up their protectiveness. They've usually been decent/socially friendly (or acceptable). This is the first bite. And, I really wasn't expecting it from her. But, she is the spazzy one. While the male has never shown fear-aggression, he has a formidable image/stance.

Did I miss where you mentioned the breed? If the worst happens and they make a Federal case out of it if the breed does not have a history of aggression they might let it go with just a slap on the paw instead more drastic measures.

For instance if Zara bit someone and it went to the local district magistrate court the Judge would probably laugh and toss the case. She may even say "DLLS's Poodle is not a threat, you should have seen the Miniature Pinschers he had several years ago. Whenever the club I was a member of would go out to their home for our Christmas party those two would go bat $#@! crazy."

I would suggest listening to this.

There was no documented history with his dog. He took it to the humane society shelter to see if they would accept her for adoption. They kept her for two days and told him to come and get her as she’s too aggressive and not adoption material. He told me several people responded to his ad to give her away, but no one was willing to take her.
