    Generally speaking, I agree with the sarcasm of your statement.

    In this event, however, the cops were in the wrong - 100%. Like everyone else, cops should be held to a certain standard of expectations. Their job/position does not give them free will to do as they please sans consequences.

    Actually, it is not. The Supreme Court ruled in Castle Rock v. Gonzales, 545 U.S. 748 (2005) that police do not have an obligation to protect you.
    Their job is to catch the guy who robs you so he can stand trial for his crimes against the state, not to keep him from actually robbing you. Cops do a lot of good. There is no doubt of that, but a lot of people, including a lot of cops don't understand their true role in society.

    Are public officials, such as elected politicians and their appointees, the only people that police are legally required to protect?
