UBI is another failure by the Demos just waiting to happen. Already the Demos have been dabbling in it.....they got the Idea From the Fins. It failed. Now they want to bring the failure to the US. Chicago wants to try it....the largest city to entertain the failed concept. Paying people to not work.....just doesn't cut it. Money for nothing and your chicks for free ain't happening.

Money For Nothin': Apparently not satisfied with the already disastrous condition of its finances, Chicago this week said it would like to experiment with a universal basic income, a socialist pipe-dream that pops up every few years as a "new" idea. It's not. And it will never work.

Chicago alderman Ameya Pawar has already proposed legislation that would give 1,000 families $500 a month. The bill looks like a shoo-in, garnering support already from a majority of the Windy City's lawmakers. Pawar is reportedly already working on the design of the program with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Chicago is the largest city yet to toy with this bad idea. There are many things that would help the working poor climb out of poverty. But a universal basic income (UBI), also called a guaranteed government income, isn't one of them.

Yet, even some conservatives fall for the idea, dreaming of eliminating the dozens of welfare programs at the federal, state and city levels and replacing them with one big check. It's attracted a wide range of supporters, everyone from Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg to union chief Andy Stern and conservative-libertarian Charles Murray embrace the idea.

Just this week, former President Obama, speaking in South Africa, said that a guaranteed income would be one way to shrink the "yawning disparities" in wealth and education.

Do these luminaries know something the rest of us don't? Sadly, no. They're just wrong.....snip~

Isn't that just another name for welfare? If they cannot or don't want to work they already get welfare (in fact they can get more on welfare then the $500 monthly proposed), so it's just a name change regardless of what the big shot's opine. At least that's my take on the editorial.

Well, yes, it is welfare. But, while with current welfare you risk losing it if you get a job, with UBI you will still get it. Everyone gets it.

Yeah it would be with Murray's version. But then he was thinking it would replace all other welfare. Which that is impossible while there are still Democrats that could get elected.

It actually started as a libertarian concept. BUT, it replaced all forms of social welfare benefits.

Well the Left is adopting it.....and from there on it will be destined to fail. For the Demos in Chicago its just another scam for them to make money off of. Plus they won't get rid of any other welfare programs.

It's a given that a UBI will be accompanied by across-the-board inflation to soak up all that yummy money. So, it's also a given that severe price controls would be necessary.
