Ecuador officials are planning to withdraw asylum protection for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and hand him over to British authorities.

Lenin Moreno, Ecuador's president, met with British officials in London Friday to finalize the agreement, according to the Intercept.

He has stayed in hiding out of concern that he would be sent to the U.S. to be prosecuted for publishing classified documents that were leaked by Chelsea Manning. WikiLeaks has also been at the center of the FBI investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

During the last three months, Assange has been blocked from accessing the Internet, with officials saying that he violated an agreement not to intervene in state affairs. He angered Spanish officials when he tweeted support for separatist leaders in Catalonia who sought to secede last year.

Moreno, who was elected in May, has called Assange an "inherited problem" and a "stone in the shoe.".....snip~

I think people like Assange and Snowden wouldn't be a stone in anybodies shoes if governments weren't doing things that are illegal and dangerous to their own citizens liberties. We should bite the bullet and let them come to the USA, plead guilty to reduced charges and get a reasonable prison sentence which should then be commuted. At the same time we need to put pressure on our government to get to the bottom of the conspiratorial actions that some of them are involved in and put a stop to it.

I don't know enough about the facts surrounding his actions to make such an assumption.


If he exposed unlawful conduct by our trusted intelligence agencies as some claim, he should be congratulated.


If ihe was a subversive working for a hostile foreign government, he should be held accountable for that.

Snowden is a hero in my book. after all aren't we supposed to be the country that protects whistleblowers?

For what ? Telling the American people the truth about government interference in their lives? Yeah that's probably what Stalin would of done with him. To me he's a hero. The government's policies might not of changed but at least we know about them. If we had balls like he does we'd change it too.
