So is anyone watching the British Open? It's being held at Carnoustie , which is supposed to be among the most intimidating courses in the world. I believe they said it has never hosted an open where the winner was in double figures under par. Opens in general are supposed to be demanding with greens that can't be held and bunkers that make getting up and down nearly impossible plus rough that even a pro can't hit a green out of. I've watched BO's where the winner fought for four days to stay around even par.
But not this year, the three leaders are -9 and there are several at -5 with a host of people under par. It looks like the long tradition of the BO has caved to modern hype marketing set up for spectacular shots and low scores rather than grinding out wins.
I guess I used to like the pros have to play like I do , bouncing it into greens , avoiding bunkers and roughs etc.
