Why the 3/5ths Compromise Was Anti-Slavery

This could go over well as some people don't seem capable of discussing race intelligently, but let's give it a shot--remember, this is on the serious side. Find another thread if you can't contribute to discussion.

The South wanted to count all of the slaves. The North ridiculed that because the South said slaves were property. The 3/5 was a compromise to get the Constitution to pass and be ratified. Since the slaves weren't counted as one person the clause was anti-slavery.

Is that not obvious? Yes, occasionally morons will suggest that this was some kind of racial theory that dehumanized blacks but they are not to be taken seriously.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

It makes sense, what's said in the video, but I suspect we will see those who don't like discussing it show up.

Blacks will say that by counting slaves as only 3/5 for Representation that it meant they were not "real"people to the men at the Convention. As I have read the Convention notes and arguments, it was only for one purpose- politics. Counting all was more power for the South; not counting them was more power for the North.

Abolition or expansion wasn't as important as plain power. The South didn't say blacks weren't human but that it didn't matter. That fit in perfectly with wanting to count them. The response was that if they weren't free they shouldn't be counted at all. That fir perfectly with abolition.

No argument about it being a compromise with the South getting a little more.

    That's about my whole belief.

Madison sold out a little to get the deal done. It was politics after all. Slavery should of been gone within 20 years but that didn't work. I don't defend Madison but if you look at the over all Constitution it is written for all even though some didn't have the rights yet

The North wanted to count slaves less for power and the South wanted to count them more for power. Neither was concerned for the slave as people. And that kept going right into the Civil War.

You had to be a landowner to vote so poor whites did not count either.
