I frankly don't understand the outrage about payments by the military to sports leagues and teams. Essentially, it's advertising - just like the commercials we see in the media for this or that branch of the Service. Why is it okay to pay a billionaire media mogul to put out t.v., radio and print recruiting ads, but it's somehow deplorable to pay a billionaire team owner to put on a half-time show?

I still get chills thinking about that B-2 doing a flyover of Bank One Ballpark as the Anthem ended before Game 7 of the 2001 World Series. And yes, getting back to playing and watching the National Pastime after 9-11 really did help the country and many of its citizens to heal at that time.

Gaudy displays of flag waving and ceremony are not genuine patriotism, but merely symbols of patriotism.

We live in a time where the symbol itself has become more important than what it is supposed to represent.
Symbols have meaning. They represent what we feel without having to tell it everyone we see. I have am American flag in my front window. it means what it is supposed to mean. It certainly does show my patriotism and my pride in mu country. It is genuine.

Why does this bother you so much? I'm proud to display my love of America.

Your attitude is what is worrisome. Public displays of patriotism shouldn't bother you at all. Why would they?

You act like you don't want people to know you are a patriot. Odd.

The military uses it as a recruiting tool the same way they use NASCAR and tv. What ideology is that?
