What I would prefer to avoid

    I am a Christian.

Yet I find some views held by my fellow Christians to be especially objectionable.

    These include, especially, the following:

    (1) That the minister is (somehow) holier--i.e. closer to God--than the typical congregant is.

    (2) That the minister may act as a sort of intermediary between the congregant and God.

    (3) Anything that pits the rational against the supra-rational (which is to say, the irrational).

And (4) Anything that requires magical thinking (which, by the way, is a logical fallacy).

The leftward lurch of many churches is strange.

Numbers 3 and 4 describe Christianity and every other religion, at least for some.

But he did turn water into wine for a party.

What does Granny think of that?

    Hi pjohns,
Just curious, could you tell us what motivates you to be a Christian ?
I'm not pickin' at you -- that's a sincere question.
I would sort of like to hear that before I respond to you on some of the things you hope to avoid.
