You'd think they would have spent some of that money on developing better technology and equipment to prevent these head injuries. Or has helmet technology reached its zenith?

At this point, what difference does it make?

I don't watch football, myself, and don't care. I have no respect whatsoever for the NFL or anyone in it.

The settlement, which took effect January 2017, resolved thousands of lawsuits that accused the NFL of hiding what it knew about the risks of repeated concussions. It covers retired players who develop Lou Gehrig's disease, dementia or other neurological problems believed to be caused by concussions suffered during their pro careers, with awards as high as $5 million for the most serious cases.

A couple of years ago when this concussion issue became prominent and the subject of movies and news stories, I predicted it would eventually be the demise of the NFL and tackle football in general.

If you want to minimize concussions through equipment changes, go back to leather helmets. Players won’t be using their head as a battering ram any more.

Head to head is still legal in some cases where the ball carrier is not deemed to be "defenseless" . Just how you are supposed to defend against a shot to the noggin , is never explained.

I mean I seriously doubt that people who receive concussions intended to, like is being disingenuously suggested here.

People intentionally DELIVER them, which of course can cause brain damage to them as well, which they should not be rewarded for. Soccer is next BTW

The NFL has teamed with the Army to make better helmets.

The defenseless receiver rule isn’t only about a helmet to helmet hit. I don’t know of any case where a helmet to helmet hit is legal. The only possible exception could be is when a running back lowers his head prior to getting hit.
