Elections haven't been ethical and politics has been a joke for the last 50+ years. Everyone is bought and paid for and it's all theater. At least Trump made the $#@! entertaining and rustled the establishment a bit.

There is no pretence that these are new problems in general, but the questions in this OP, are focusing on the use of stolen information to discredit your opponent in an election. It would encompass information obtained from a stolen phone, through illegal wiretaps, bugging residences and offices as well as cybercrime. Is it acceptable for a candidate to use whatever dirt is available, no matter how it was obtained, to gain an advantage in an election? Should it be legal to do so?

Again, a reminder to all in this thread, leave out the personalities and politics. I don't want this to be about any particular politician.

The system is not some regime imposed by extra-terrestrial overlords. Doesn't it depend on what the electorate will tolerate? If the system is corrupt, who is really responsible for that state of affairs? The corrupt politicians or the people who turn a blind eye and vote for them anyway?
