    Canada-Saudi Arabian feud

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/saudi-exp...163157843.html

Riyadh (AFP) - Saudi Arabia and Canada on Monday showed no signs of backing down in an escalating row over human rights, after Riyadh abruptly cut ties over Ottawa's vigorous calls for the release of activists jailed in the kingdom.
The Saudi government expelled Canada's ambassador, giving him 24 hours to leave the country, and recalled its own envoy to Ottawa, while freezing all new trade over what it slammed as "interference" in its internal affairs.
Expelled the Canadian Ambassador? My my.

The ministry also announced "the freezing of all new trade and investment transactions with Canada while retaining its right to take further action".
Later Monday, the row appeared to escalate as Riyadh said it will relocate thousands of Saudi students studying in Canada to other countries, and state airline Saudia announced it was suspending flights to and from Toronto.
Canada has more problems that just a trade war with Trump. No doubt the Common Sense and Dr. Who's need to be made aware.

"There isn't a strong bilateral trade relationship and poking the Trudeau government likely resonates with Saudi's hawkish regional allies. At jeopardy are the... thousands of Saudi students in Canada."
Bilateral trade amounts to CAN $3-4 billion (US $2.3-3.1 billion) a year, according to Thomas Juneau, an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa.
But the damage could be more significant if a $15 billion deal agreed in 2014 for Canada to sell Riyadh light armoured vehicles is scrapped, as thousands of jobs in Canada could be lost, Juneau said.
    Thousands of students jeopardized?

A trade war with Saudi Arabia.....over rights for women?

And yet Trudeau will get no Trump-like heat for this trade war, their economy could be harmed.....and Canadians support this? What right do Canadians have to go over and lecture Saudi Arabia on their rights afforded women?

    All bark, no bite.

Canada's claim to relevance is her multicultural policy and her human rights fetish. Britain and her Dominions have undergone a truly sickening decline.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

Not sure where I stand. On one hand, I think that middle powers who support human rights should use that power in positive ways. At the same time, it is a luxury to be able to advocate for women (or whomever) in another country and that luxury should not be at the expense of Canadians. It is also hypocritical to do this with the Saudis, but totally ignore the $#@! show in China, for example.
