Egypt's second sphinx FOUND: Ancient statue discovered during ROAD WORKS

Egypt's second sphinx FOUND: Ancient statue discovered during ROAD WORKS

I wonder how big it is.

Engineers came to a halt after stumbling upon the a large statue, which they described as having a "lion's body with a human head".

They soon realised they retrieved the world's second Egyptian sphinx, which originated as far as 2500 BC during the reign of the Pharoah Kafre in Egypt.

Mohamed Abel Aziz, the Director General of Antiquities, said the structure has yet to be removed from the ground, and remains embedded in soil until it can be properly excavated.

Members of the public can now visit the site where the sphinx was found, Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani said.

That is cool, there is no telling what thousands of years of sandstorms has hidden

I love this stuff Peter and I seem to have the same passion about finds like these and extraordinary creatures and stuff.

The more they find in Egypt the harder it becomes for me to believe they built it without some outside expertise

I think their antiquities office would prefer if more stuff is not found, as you are correct as to the implications.

    I love the stuff.

I don't see what the problem was in building them. The stone came from the upper Nile. They floated it down. They dragged them to the site. They built ramps. They were smart people.- I got this from the history channel. it makes sense when you see the quarries.

The biggest reason I don't see "outside" help is the lack of cement and the different sizes of the stones. Outside help would have known about both.

NEW SPHINX STATUE UNCOVERED IN HISTORIC LUXOR CITY...

ANCIENT EGYPT: NEW SPHINX STATUE UNCOVERED IN HISTORIC LUXOR CITY
8/10/18 - Archaeologists have discovered a sphinx buried in Luxor in Egypt—the site of the ancient city of Thebes—Egypt Today has reported.
The newly uncovered sphinx is the latest treasure imparted by Luxor’s ancient Al-Kabbash Road, much of which is lined with the magnificent stone creatures.

Luxor's avenue of sphinxes is pictured.

Al-Kabbash Road links the famous Luxor Temple to Karnak Temple—two vast and impressive centers built for the ancient god Amon, who was particularly revered in Thebes from about 2000 BCE.
