Seems like a bit of a double standard but the US also provides citizenship to people who have "special skills" (famous people) so it doesn't seem a stretch to add on the parents of the First Lady.

True about her parents but that is a requirement for all people who sponsor family members in this manner. I am sponsored and I could get the boot if a certain level of financial stability were not maintained. Sponsors also have to agree to cover the cost of things like health care.
