On Tuesday, Missouri became the first state in the country to have a law on the books that prohibits food makers from using the word “meat” to refer to anything other than animal flesh.
This takes aim at manufacturers of what has been dubbed fake or nontraditional meat (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2018/06/06/kfc-goes-vegetarian-plans-test-faux-chicken-u-k-ireland/676301002/).
Clean meat – also known as lab-grown meat – is made of cultured animal tissue cells, while plant-based meat is generally from ingredients such as soy, tempeh and seitan.
The state law forbids "misrepresenting a product as meat that is not derived from harvested production livestock or poultry (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2018/04/11/white-castle-goes-highbrow-now-famous-slider-can-come-fake-beef/501240002/)." Violators may be fined $1,000 and imprisoned for a year.

This reminds me of the whole "real" (http://nadiaberenstein.com/blog/2014/11/19/08itxgu5qzy07vjetduw9extzwz5ck) mayonnaise legal issue a few years back.

So that's legal everywhere else? Great

"The Greek Patriarchy"

Alexander the Great could offer the greatest legal angles, but his own Senators came up against his own fathers.

There is hardly a single thing fighting for except your own home or those for you're there to help good neighbors.

Interesting that it must come from harvested production livestock. So if I shoot a deer his carcass is not actually meat now? Many chefs refer to the "the meat of the nut". I can see a lot of lawsuits with this one that have nothing to do with New Age fake foods like hamburgers made out of black beans or Tofurky for Thanksgiving

It probably applies to commercial sales and wild game cannot be sold in most states

Some restaurants have been experimenting with something called "Impossible Burgers". Reportedly they have reproduced the texture - and through chemical trickery, the taste - of ground beef so exactly that most people can't tell the difference. I'd have to taste it for myself, of course, to believe it.

It seems a law such as this one will receive court challenges, since it abrogates what the scripture states in Genesis chapter 1:

King James Bible

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Besides, the law is in violation of Amendment #1, of speech is freedom.

Well, if Meatloaf had any plans to tour there, I hope he reconsiders his choice...or, contact his lawyers...
