US driver in 'Bird Box blindfold' crashes in Utah
Police in the US state of Utah have taken the unusual step of urging residents not to drive blindfolded after an online challenge inspired by a horror film led to a crash.
A teenager with her hat over her eyes drove into oncoming traffic in the city of Layton while taking part in the so-called "Bird Box Challenge".
The craze has come from the Netflix film Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock.
Last week Netflix warned fans not to attempt the challenge.
This week the same advice came from Layton police department.
"It's just inexcusable to do something as dangerous as this, not only to yourself but everyone else on the road," said police Lt Travis Lyman, quoted by KSL.com (https://www.ksl.com/article/46466208/police-blame-bird-box-challenge-for-crash-in-layton).
He said it was a warning he never thought he would have to give - don't drive while blindfolded.

I'm surprised she was only charged with reckless driving. That isn't a very serious charge. She can plead guilty, pay a fine and off she goes again. She should have been charged with something a bit more serious. When you blindfold yourself and intentionally drive into traffic you are either trying to commit suicide or trying to hurt someone else.

So, one thing I'm wondering is, was the kid in the passenger seat blindfolded as well? Why the fuck didn't they grab the steering wheel and keep the car in the proper lane? Maybe it would blow the challenge?? SMH

Knowing that people participate in stupid challenges like eating Tide Pods, or trying to eat a spoonful of cinnamon, I always took solace in knowing they were just helping Darwin keep the gene pool deep, however, with this one, they are now putting other people at risk.
