The only two women to participate in the Marine Corps Infantry Officer Course (IOC) failed ongoing tests to determine which infantry positions should be available to women, according to the Marine Corps Times (http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/article/20130402/NEWS/304020020):

The women failed the introductory Combat Endurance Test, a punishing test of physical strength and endurance, officials at Marine Corps headquarters said Tuesday. The latest class began March 28 at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., with 110 lieutenants participating. Ninety-six men passed the initial endurance test. Twelve men and two women — the only female Marines taking part — failed.
The two women both volunteered to participate in the IOC. Two other women had previously volunteered in September but also failed.

It's a shame....but not surprising. I'm glad they at least tried.

Peter1469 probably has insight on this, but is this a case of qualification standards not being lowered for women?

What's your point? Women are not a strong as men?

The military can't afford to lower standards in order to recruit women to heavy infantry jobs....it would smack of favoritism, and open a whole can of worms once those women got out into the field and couldn't hold their own. The average woman is NOT as strong as the average man. Nor is her lower center of gravity well-suited to the upper-body strength necessary for these types of jobs. Many people try to pretend that men and women are equal physically, but it just ain't so, and that's a FACT. There are exceptions, of course, and hopefully those few women who can qualify physically will be attracted to this type of work. I'm rooting for them!

I saw that article. The USMC stated that it wasn't going to lower standards for combat schools. It can't be that hard is 96 out of 110 passed. (Of course keeping their average age in mind.)

Those women were already trained and conditioned marines before they entered this school.
Sadly if they hadnt lowered the standards for Police and Fire there would be very very few females in police work.
The height and weight standard alone would be enough to keep 90% out, without all the rest they changed to facilitate women being able to pass.

If I was given back my youth and strength, still wouldn't have chosen the service over college. There will come a time when a female passes this test but they should never lower the standard.

Lib groups will put so much pressure on the government that they will end up lowering standards so women can pass it. And men will die because of it.
Mark my words.

That happened with police and fire but I doubt it will happen with the Military. We have an all volunteer military and morale is paramount. I doubt the standards would be lowered to any great degree.
