Soup or hot beverage gets cold quickly: Ever serve yourself up a big bowl of piping hot soup and by the time you get halfway through the bowl, the soup is cold? A tip: before filling your china/stoneware soup bowl, run it under very hot tapwater for a couple of minutes, till the bowl is quite hot. Drain, dry the outside quickly, and fill with soup. Your soup will stay hot for the duration of the meal. This works well for china/stoneware mugs for hot beverages too.

Yep perfect tip, stoneware soup bowls heated with your tip seem to stay warmer longer than china or ceramic but that might just be a perception.
My wife and I use stainless desk mugs for our coffee, run them under hot water and coffee stays nice and hot.
