I thought that it would be kind of cool idea for everybody to post some pictures of any wildlife or nice landscape pictures that you personally took and that are unique to where you live in the country and your surroundings. Since people on here are scattered across the country it would be kind of fun to compare I think.

I can start...

There's nothing worth looking at in Ohio. Seriously. Instead, I shall post some of our Caribbean vacation pics. First, Grand Cayman:

Blow Holes

Rum Point (yes, that's me....a storm was moving in and I liked the contrast of the stormy sky and turquoise water in this pic)
2273

Sting Ray City (a small one swam between my ankles and that was enough for me....back into the boat!)

The Lake Isle of Innisfree
BY WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings.

I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.

Man I cannot wait until I get my laptop working. I'd like to post more here when I do, but for now here's a bunny on the Flickr account I set up a couple of years ago:

Yes, this is my Flickr account, but most of the pics aren't very good, I took most of them a few years ago with my Pentax, then realized Flickr sucks and stopped maintaining it except to share photos occasionally.

Bishop's Orchard, Guilford, CT

I used to live there for a little while and I always make sure to go back there at least once a year. Bishop's Orchard is an apple orchard, though they also grow other things, including some very nice raspberries.

This is a picture of the Tri-State monument. The northernmost point in the State of New Jersey.

Its essentially in the middle of the Delaware River, where the Neversink and Delaware link up. You really can't get there without crossing the line into NY, crossing the Neversink, hang a left (and I couldn't make this up) into a CEMETARY, cross UNDER I-84 (which by the way doesn't actually clip NJ at all) and that brings you to the bottom of this peninsula where the three states link up.

http://constitutionworld.typepad.com/.a/6a0168e932cb48970c0168eb6b9933970c-pi

And of course, would the event be complete without the obligatory picture of my foot in three states at once? I think not.

This is actually on the way to what is called Lambert Castle which is on Garret Mountain, the northernmost of the Watchung Mountains. One of the most ideal places to watch 4th of July fireworks because there will be innumerable municipalities, perhaps even NYC itself shooting off fireworks all at the same time. Nevertheless, what's striking about the picture is really just how urban this place is. This IS Paterson, NJ

As you can see I might be a touched enamored with state lines.

This here is Greenwood Lake which straddles NY and NJ

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/432181_3354065457853_1636591015_n.jpg

I'm not sure exactly where the line is, but the property to the right is NY and the property to the left is NJ.

http://goo.gl/maps/PP8Y6

If you step back you'll see the google line to the north. It is incorrect.

oregon coast......and yes I was freezing

When my wife and I drove from San Francisco up to Port Angeles, WA after which we took a ferry to Victoria, BC, one of the things that struck me was the strong temperature contrast between the heat just
'over the ridge' and the shoreline. Literally scorching heat on I-5, one thermometer in Grants Pass had 105 (not accurate, it was one of those bank thermometers in the sun, but still very hot.

On the PCH we would still feel this effect, one road would swerve to the west of the ridge, "cold" and then swerve east of the ridge....hot....this was August.....at the start of the trip, my wife and I had rented a convertible, leaving San Francisco, I thought to myself, "Gee, maybe we shouldn't have" -- that morning we visited Napa and by midday in Napa and north, again, east of the ridge....hot....

That particular picture was my buddy's camera. I do photoblogging at three levels of intensity, the smart phone camera, a simple Samsung Point and Shoot, the quality for which exceeds its price and then I have the Nikon D3200 for more serious photo taking. I'm still on the learning curve of that camera though.

I'm in the same boat with my Pentax, which is good for an entry level DSLR. It's a tough transition to make, but totally worth it imo. There's so much more personal satisfaction when you are able to understand and operate a camera without it doing all of the work for you.

That it's waterproof is important. My dad's camera got wet and stopped functioning during our trip to Japan a few years ago. He spent the rest of the trip sulking, and that was just the first day.

Absolutely. I don't want an extra backpack of camera gear. And I want something that can fall down the stairs with me, without breaking. Not that I do that a lot. :wink: Or jump in the ocean; or climb a cliff. I did get a fish eye lens and a telephonic lens to go with it, but I have a small case for those lens. I don't have to drag them along when I am out and about.

I have a couple different lenses, and yes it is a pain to switch them when you need to quickly change what you're going for and to carry an extra backpack. Once while hiking I saw a hawk fly over a lake. I would have loved to get a good shot of it but I had my 50 mm on and I didn't switch it in time.

No. It was a small condo area. We had our own beach; kitchen- basically a 1 bedroom condo. And we could walk to a market, restaurants, and bars. We got a free rental car for 1 day so we hit a resturant on the other side of the island. For some sort of seafood thing the Wife wanted. But I ran on the beach every other morning and swam every day. Hit the mini gym every morning at 7am.

Beautiful sunset here today. If one were a believer in conspiracy theories, one could say that chem-trails make for great sunsets. :grin: And just by changing the angle with my phone camera, the results are completely different. Neither pic does justice to the actual sunset though.
