is it just me or have the threads in the environment sections background turned red?

its very hard on the eyes and annoying. Is there any way to opt out of it if it has been changed?

I noticed that too, did not associate it with a particular section though.

It's the new color for the serious topics to help people know that it's a different section and has different rules.

The color is atrocious, and to me, sorta aggressive.

It is a bit much but at last members have noticed!

We'll see what more say, we could tone it down some, we'll see.

as it stands now you have a heavy dark red boarder with a lighter red inner field..

how about one thin red line instead of the thick boarder and no inner lighter red field? something along the idea of the black boarder of a quoted post? That way you have your red flagging without it being annoying.

We wanted something stood out so it was noticed. Too many posting junk in serious discussion because they didn't realize where they were on the forum. Well, now everyone knows.

What VIPs saw and voted on were small samples of color which looked fine, but full page, I agree is too much. So we're working on it.

The border and background is all we got to play with and all we can change is color. See above post.

Far as I know all we got is the boarder and backgroud. If we change the post title bar, it'd change it everywhere on the forum. We want to highlight OtSS are only.

I liked the red....in the small sample. But I agree it's too much as a full page. Shall we try the blue?

That dark would be the same. It just needs to be toned down a bit.

The point is to have a separate section for serious discussion. If people want to have non-serious discussion they should stay off the more serious side.

I guess some people don't read very well and/or they are not accessing the threads from the main Forum, but from What's New, where it is less obvious.

Who determines what is junk?

Chris

Who determines what is junk?

Content. Ask a simple question, on any given topic, does you post contribute to discussion of it? Or does it distract? Or simply contribute nothing? A bit of information, an argument, even a question contribute. Going off topic, attacking others, etc distract. That's how mods should decide--we do our best.

If one doesn't like serious discussion, there's on the lighter side and politics and news. Something for everyone.

Let's try keeping it red but toning it down. I like the idea of getting rid of the inner field and making it a darker red...

You guys remind me of Congress, change for the sake of change.

It wasn't broken, why try to fix it.

The format is now totally repelling.

Great job.

Red is what VIPs decided. Both the first and second are good, but like my original vote I prefer blue.

As stated several times, green, the purpose of the change is to get members to notice when they're in the On the Serious Side forum section. We first tried dark grey, no one noticed, now we're trying color. And guess what, everyone has noticed. Mission accomplished.

Also as stated many times the current color is too much. As stated as well we looked at small samples and it looked fine, but scaled up to page size doesn't work.

The sixes. We could try 666. :-P

You and chloe for the blue. Maybe. We can have show of hands by end of day down in VIP room.

If any member wants to vote on color in post #26 above, do so. We'll consider it.

When the people don't listen, you might change the message.

Anyway, people drifting off topic and from seriousness to just having fun and talking is not big threat to the board.

Excessive moderation killed more boards than thread drift.

Could you move your statements out of your quote of mine? Very difficult to read.

So far everyone has listened and is waiting to see how we remedy the issue.

What has moderation to do with this VIP decision?

Go to http://thepoliticalforums.com/threads/12617-seeing-red!?p=276593&viewfull=1#post276593.

This was decided by VIPs. VIPs design the forum format and decide the rules. Mod simply carry them out.

Knowing I make that common mistake, and correct it 99% of the time, you could have been patient.

You know I would have corrected it.
