Sugar, high fructose intake may trigger ADHD, bipolar disorder, aggressive behavior (https://www.studyfinds.org/sugar-high-fructose-intake-adhd-bipolar-disorder-aggressive-behavior/)

This isn't new to those who follow the wellness movement. But it is good to see medical doctors and scientists catching up.

AURORA, Colo. — For both children and adults, mental health disorders can have damaging effects on all aspects of their lives. As scientists examine the causes of attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome (ADHD) and bipolar disorder, a new catalyst is emerging. Researchers from the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus say sugar intake (https://www.studyfinds.org/sugar-doesnt-improve-mood-makes-people-feel-tired/) may play a major role in these disorders and even aggressive behavior.
Their study suggests fructose (a type of simple sugar) and uric acid increases the risk for developing various behavioral conditions. Researchers find that this component of sugar and high fructose corn syrup tricks the body into thinking it’s starving; thereby changing a person’s mental state as well.

“We present evidence that fructose, by lowering energy in cells, triggers a foraging response similar to what occurs in starvation (https://www.studyfinds.org/sugar-doesnt-improve-mood-makes-people-feel-tired/),” says lead author Richard Johnson in a university release (https://news.cuanschutz.edu/news-stories/high-fructose-intake-may-drive-aggressive-behaviors-adhd-bipolar-disorder).

Sugar doesn't trigger these mental disorders. It doesn't mean that many won't consume a lot of sugary foods because they do. Large consumptions of sugar acts to calm people down with mental disorders.

That sounds counter-intuitive. Unless they have a sugar addiction and need it to avoid physical symptoms.

Added sugar is little more than a drug.

We already see what too much sugar does to children - they start bouncing off the walls. Blood glucose levels affects the body's chemistry and the brain is not immune to chemical imbalances.

I think the degree to which your body manufactures uric acid or not, is related to your particular body chemistry and perhaps your DNA. There are cultures that eat diets very high in purines with no ill effects (like gout). If you already have gout or arthritis, then purines are going to aggravate your condition. Like anything however, it's important to have balance in your diet.

That's absurd. A 'sugar high" is well known.

Today I have eaten more sugar than usual. I can tell a big difference too. I feel like shit now. I am tired, not as sharp mentally, my eyes hurt and are very sensitive to light and overall I just feel woozy. Kind of how you would feel sick and want to barf when you would get too dizzy as a kid
