They did not believe they were bound by the doctrines of the founders or the Constitution. They believed these were antiquated ideas, unequal to modern governing. The felt they had the right to remake government as they wished along whatever lines they wished. They simply don't believe as the founders did that there are higher moral laws which give us "unalienable" rights. They believe that human laws are the highest laws and any notions of limits on those laws are just nonsense. All of these things are historically true and documentable. They said these things outright and didn't even try to hide it. They have not fundamentally changed as a movement. When they say they want to fundamentally change America, they mean discard some of our most sacred ideals.
