What am I reading here?

This is an article about how pro-lifers were arrested for protesting outside Zuckerberg Hospital, which, in conjunction with UCSC has been participating in research that implants human fetal tissue into mice.

So, I get that part and I can see where it could lead to problems if the researchers want second-trimester tissue and women are being coerced or bribed into waiting to abort.

But this is what concerns me the most because how can you get fetal tissue before an abortion? I have to be misunderstanding this, because this would be a horrific thing to do if it's what sounds like is happening. Here is the article:

Here is the wording from the actual peer-reviewed study. What is going on here?

SCID-hu gut mice Fetal gut tissues (18–24 g. w.) were obtained from women with normal pregnancies before elective termination for nonmedical reasons with informed consent according to local, state, and federal regulations. Single intact segments of the human fetal intestine (2−3 cm in length) were transplanted subcutaneously on the back of 6–8-week-old male C.B17 scid mice (C.B-Igh-1b/IcrTac-Prkdcscid Taconic) [83 (https://journals.plos.org/plospathogens/article?id=10.1371/journal.ppat.1006202#ppat.1006202.ref083)].

Sounds to me like they obtain human fetal intestine while the fetus is still living and prior to abortion and it meets all legal regulations.

That should not be legal. No way, shape, or form.

It's certainly not moral.

Found this, what I think this is called: Born Alive Abortions (http://www.survivors.la/born-alive-abortions?fbclid=IwAR07JXR1JAI4ZcK0VS8QOBzYM_S2-8P_-Tkhs5PiZ7bJFCAsFcn1nayDAcY). Won't show the pictures here but think those are pictures of fetal intestinal transplants onto mice.
