Here is all you need to do to make your very own Quinine……………………………Take the rind of 2-3 grapefruits. Take the peel only and cover it with water about 3 inches above the peels.Put a glass lid on your pot if you have one….a metal one is fine if you dont. Let it simmer for about 2 hours. Do not take the lid off of the pot till it cools completely as this will allow the Quinine to escape in the steam. Sweeten the tea with honey or sugar since it will be bitter. Take 1 tablespoon every couple of hours to bring up the phlegm from your lungs. Discontinue as soon as you get better……

A post being circulated on social media post incorrectly claims the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, which is being used by some doctors in the treatment of COVID-19, is the same as quinine.

The post goes on to claim that the substance is “something that anyone can make at home” and goes on to give a recipe using fruit peelings.

It further adds that “tonic water has the exact same quinine” as hydroxychloroquine.

The claim that hydroxychloroquine is simply quinine is false.

Hydroxychloroquine is a synthetic drug while quinine is a naturally occurring compound found in cinchona bark.

“Hydroxychloroquine is a completely different chemical substance to quinine,” Alan Armstrong, Professor of Organic Synthesis at Imperial College London, told Reuters.

Quinine doesn't come from grapefruit. It made from the back of a tree. Also, hydroxy chloroquine is not quinine.

Old lore; I have no validation. HCQ is based around quinine.. (Tonic water) reportedly HCQ came about partially to it being noticed that those who drank tonic/quinine suffered less or not at all from malaria...

For one thing, quinine and hydroxychloroquine are not synonymous. For another, I can't possibly believe you could brew enough quinine by boiling grapefruit peels, to be of any significant benefit.

I know of MDs in Texas have been prescribing HCQ with great success; despite the CDC, NIH, and the AMA statements.
