What's on the television today/tonight that you watched/are watching?

Watched the finale of Game of Thrones - thought it was pretty good. Now I'm finishing up the most recent episode of Mad Men, then off to bed.

I watched Mr Bean's Holiday last night. Not so classy, but what can I say, Mr. Bean is funny as shit.

It is a good show. I'm finding it a bit repetitive in nature this season, (Don cheating again, oh what a shocker) but it's really neat how they incorporate actual events in that time in history.

Been watching this Infested! show on Netflix. It's an animal planet documentary on houses with horrible horrible pest infestations. In each episode they talk about 3 families who move into houses that have (the majority of the time) been vacant for years.. The families each make a decision of whether to move out or try and solve the problem.

Very interesting. The last episode I watched was a family that moved into a house with a bat infestation in the attic. They called an exterminator in who says the bats are a protected species and cannot be moved or killed. When they put a piece of metal over the hole that the bats were using to go in and out, the bats start flying inside the rest of the house. The son ended up getting bit and vaccinated for rabies. The family moved out.

I would recommend this show. If you have bugs it will make you feel very thankful that you don't have this many bugs.

They've done episodes on scorpions, spiders, mice, roaches, ants, ticks, possums, rats, bedbugs, bats and even a house with a foundation full of snakes.

If you have Netflix instant streaming you should check it out. They just added the 2nd season to it.

It's definitely a great show. The writing is amazing - hilarious and smart. It's also neat that they start the series in the past and work through major events that happened.

Without ruining it for you, (I don't think these aren't real spoilers) it looks like this season will focus somewhat heavily on the lead up to the 2012 election, as well as the Arab Spring.

Two out of my three parents loved that show, so it only follows that I wound up an addict.

(Actually I also enjoy the show on its own merits. I like the format for one thing: I actually prefer to know who did it first, with the mystery being how Columbo connects the dots. Beyond the style of presentation though, as a populist of sorts, I also kinda like how the murders Columbo solves don't involve either street criminals or more or less everyday people like in your typical murder mystery, but instead focus on the powerful, which is unorthodox for the genre. I like both series. My preference overall is for the original 1970s series, but the newer one includes some of my very favorite episodes.)

Happy October 1st everyone. So begins another 30 day drive to Halloween.

I'm starting off by watching the 1976 version of Stephen King's Carrie on Netflix. My girlfriend and I are planning on going and seeing the remake when it comes out in theaters on October 18th (Not that anyone is expecting it to be any good!)

Probably going to watch a different horror movie every night, so I'll try to keep you all updated.

I have not seen that. I did like the original Omen.

The Omen was good, I haven't seen the remake. Don't normally see them, but I am a big King fan so I want to see Carry. I hear The Conjuring is good, that one got an R rating on terror alone, supposedly no sex or nudity or language:

http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2013/07/did-em-the-conjuring-em-really-deserve-an-r-rating-just-for-being-scary/277965/

"Rated R for sequences of disturbing violence and terror."

That's the decree that came from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) earlier this year for James Wan's hit new horror flick, The Conjuring, a '70s-set, based-on-a-true-story tale about a family besieged by the supernatural in their Rhode Island farmhouse. Though Wan claimed to have shot it with the intention of garnering a more box office-friendly PG-13, the ratings board had other ideas. R ratings can limit the potential audience for a film, so moviemakers often appeal the MPAA's decision or recut their work to try to change the judgment. But Wan and the film's producers saw the harsher rating as an opportunity instead of an obstacle.
Speaking to an audience at the WonderCon in Anaheim in March, The Conjuring's executive producer, Walter Hamada, said that the MPAA told them, "'It's just so scary. [There are] no specific scenes or tone you could take out to get it PG-13.'"

No sex, no nudity, no profanity—just too scary. In one tidy sound bite, Hamada turned The Conjuring into the sort of movie that horror-loving teens essentially have to find a way to see. The film took the top spot at the box office this past weekend, earning an impressive $41.5 million—the best debut for an R-rated horror flick ever. One can only guess how many tickets to Pacific Rim, The Lone Ranger, or World War Z sold this weekend were actually for 16-year-olds sneaking into the screen next door to see just how scary too scary is.

/Edit: I tried to watch it last night but could not find a version that didn't have Asian subtitles at the bottom, and I don't want to ruin a good movie with that crap.

Peter1469 I watched The Conjuring last night and would not recommend it. I was disappointed beyond belief after all the hype. There were a bunch of fake scares and only 3-4 good scares, with no lasting atmosphere after the credits roll like good horror has. It was dull, and at 120+ minutes in length had far too much open time for so little amounts of terror. The MPAA must be a bunch of chickenshits. I'd say anyone 12+ would be able to handle this movie.
