When I retired people asked what will you do. Stuff around the house, and yard, but just learned about biking and hiking trails throughout the city, so I said, explore San Antonio Trails.

Here's a map:

An amazing number of trails. I plan to hike them all.

Well, I finally got started Sunday. Up early and by 8 am at the Military Drive Trailhead:

Hiked a little over a mile to just past Culebra Road.

That's looking back under the Culebra bridge over the trail to the right and Culebra Creek to the left. The whole thing turns into a raging flood when it rains. You can see the 410 overpass, beyond which is the Military Drive Trailhead, to which I walked back.

I'm out of shape having worked many years at a computer. The last half mile my legs burned and, as it neared 9 am, it got muggy and hot and sweaty.

By Monday my feet and calves ached something fierce. Part of that is the path is all concrete. Definitely needed better shoes and socks and lighter clothes.

The only thing I didn't like was all the damn bikes coming up silent from behind and blasting past.

But at least I got out there.

Today I hiked some more, another thread.

Nice trails!

I love hiking and biking, and if the weather is at all cooperative, when I take a break from working (I work from home.), I'll walk/jog the motocross trail that winds through the trees. The ground is uneven so it keeps my ankles strong and the dogs think it's great fun. From start to finish, it's just over 1 mile, and if I don't dilly-dally, I can make it in about 11 minutes.

I put bells on my bikes to warn walkers & joggers as I approached from behind. Just loud enough to hear, but not startle.

Might buy a rearview mirror attachable to glasses or hat.

Today the bikes weren't so bad. Might just take getting used to.

That kind of path would be better. Concrete is bad on feet and knees. A dirt path is much better.
