I'm too distant at times for a dog. I like cats though. I don't even know where he is half the time.

shock collars will only work on some bad habits...i remember this all started with the 'escape'....who did he snap at..the teacher or another dog?

Shock collars are cruel and only teach a dog to fear. Since fear is what makes dogs snappish, I think it is counter productive. If the dog is snapping at people or other dogs, he needs to be better socialized. A muzzle can help, until he realizes he's not in danger.

no they are not......you use a sound before the shock...the dog quickly learns....or the behavior is quickly modified....i wouldnt use it for a snap at another puppy...i mean really...they should expect that with dogs in training...i would never use a muzzle....but that is just me....

i dont think stumpy has any serious problems...fence in the yard..simple as that...a lot of people use 'clickers'

I've had many dogs in my lifetime and have never needed a shock collar for snappish behavior. Never had any dog bite incidents either. BTW that white shepherd in the video looks like my dog Pax, may she rest in peace. She was a great girl and really smart. I miss her.

i, too have had many dogs.....i have used a shock collar....with one...and it went very well....he is a happy and well adjusted adult now...it was not something i used for months...the behavior i wanted to modified had to be modified quickly...it took about a month...i only used it for the time i had to use it...

who the shock collar is a joke with stumpy....he is a small stubborn little dog but it will not be necessary...personally i am not sure who the teacher in this class is ...but i have said...this aint gonna work ...her hubby needs to take stumpy to the class....stumpy has not respect for willow...and i wouldnt bother with an instructor who kicked my dog out for snapping at golden pup

hubby says we will be glad to take stumpy....i told him you were not giving stumpy away.....lol...i would look for a trainer who will come out and work with stumpy one on one with you and hubby....i am not sure how pricey that would be but a few sessions should do it...

I agree, Stumpy fits your description in that setting. I can tell cause the whole time we are there his tail is tucked tight under. I think we need a one on one trainer to train me.

a year and a half.

so do tell me how a muzzle is gonna make him feel more secure? o now i have no defense? that will make him all confused.....

ouchie...well okay a year and half is a good time to start...and he does all the basics doesnt he...? sit, stay, shut the f up? i mean he is not just a wild thing.....

as far as i see this...it wasnt even his mistake that got him into trouble...lets just put the shock collar on hubby....lol....his big sin so far....he got out and had to be chased down.....a sin but hardly a major one...a fence ...a gate...remember he will jump pretty high...and snapping at the golden...well duh...golden puppies are larger than him and they are just a hot mess....he was just being territorial....and what kinda pansy class is this? snapping gets you tossed? they are suppose to work with ya...not just declare stumpy a bad dog and kick him out....

personal trainer would be the way to go...bite the bullet ...let go of the cash and make your life, hubby's life and the stumpy's life peaceful instead of dealing with issues over and over...

but again, exactly what are the issues at this point....i dont remember you complaining about stumpy at all...well that he makes you move when he wants to sit with hubby ....which is typical of jrt's..they are demons...you knew that....

there is a world of difference in owning a 100 lb dob and a 20 lb jrt...little dogs need training but i never over react to them...

is stumpy getting enough exercise....that is always a problem with jrt terrors.....
