How do you spot a witch? (https://theconversation.com/how-do-you-spot-a-witch-this-notorious-15th-century-book-gave-instructions-and-helped-execute-thousands-of-women-168569?utm_medium=email) You read the following book.

...As fear of witches reached a fever pitch in Europe, witch hunters turned to the “Malleus Maleficarum,” or “Hammer of Witches,” for guidance. The book’s instructions helped convict some of the tens of thousands of people – almost all women – who were executed during the period. Its bloody legacy stretched to North America, with 25 supposed “witches” killed in Salem, Massachusetts, in the late 1600s.

...The “Malleus” was written circa 1486 by two Dominican friars, Johann Sprenger and Heinrich Kraemer, who present their guide in three parts.

The first argues that witches do in fact exist, sorcery is heresy, and not fearing witches’ power is itself an act of heresy. Part Two goes into graphic detail about witches’ sexual deviancy, with one chapter devoted to “the Way whereby Witches copulate with those Devils known as Incubi.” An incubus was a male demon believed to have sex with sleeping women.

It also describes witches’ ability to turn their victims into animals, and their violence against children. The third and final part gives guidelines on how to interrogate a witch, including through torture; get her to confess; and ultimately sentence her.

Twenty-eight editions of the “Malleus” were published between 1486 and 1600, making it the definitive guide on witchcraft and demonology for many years – and helping the prosecution of witches take off....

I'm intrigued, want to know more, alas, it's in Latin...

Just looked. $16 something. Reading the article made it sound like it was a rare book available only in libraries.

Ive done some research into witches of the period and modern day "witches".
I even had some interesting conversations on the Willow Moon Wiccan site.
It was long, long ago. Witch #33 was my favorite. Lol.

Being from Louisiana, they wanted to know if I was a warlock, knew any, or practiced voodoo.
They were need of a warlock or two,,it seems.

I informed them I was not a warlock, nor knew any.

But I think I won their hearts, red or black, lol, when I asked them where do witches go when they get sick.

But, your OP made me want to share my witch story. Years ago, I was judging a USA Gymnastics meet and it was a Halloween meet so they asked the judges to dress up. I chose to be a witch, and when we made our entrance, the lights were dimmed and they had dry ice mist covering the gym floor. I was trying to hold my pointy hat on my head with one hand and carrying my briefcase with the other--and then I stepped in the pit. A pit is a large hole filled with foam blocks where the gymnasts tumble when they're learning a new skill. I sunk out of sight. All I could hear was voices yelling, "The witch fell in the pit, the witch fell in the pit!"

Quite embarrassing.

So, that's how you catch a witch...

Here, where I live, there is an area known for generations as a haven for witches. When I first moved here, people would sweep up their own hair clippings in the barber shop and take them with them to prevent a witch from getting any of their hair to use in casting spells against them.

My only witch story is when I was a little kid I swear I saw witches flying broomsticks in stormy skies at night, or catch one peeking in the window with a pointed hat. I think that came from watching the Wizard of Oz at an early age and being terrified.

There is such a far cry from they way they are depicted to the way they actually are.

Even here in the midst of Baptist Country, there are 'witches'. Nothing to be afraid of, really.

My wife was an apartment manager for a low income housing project when I first met her. Every Halloween she would dress up as a witch because she said that is what the tenants thought of her anyway.

I found out she really was a witch. On our third date I was driving down the road and she leaned over and whispered into my ear and I turned into a motel parking lot.

I was a witch for Halloween one year, I was probably 8....I had the long black dress, the pointed black hat, a witch mask and, I was going to carry my mom's broom.....but, trying to hold onto my hat, orange plastic pumpkin and broom, was too much, I left the broom at home.

I had a witch friend once. I had her put the whammy on a friend of mine and two weeks later he fell out of a deer stand and broke 3 ribs. :)
