View Full Version : Blogging at The Political Forums

ADMIN

Members of the Political Forums,

I am pleased to announce that we have successfully added a blogging platform, known as Wordpress, to our forum.

If you are interested, please visit http://thepoliticalforums.com/blogs whereupon you should already be logged in under your tPF account. From there, you can comment on the first post I have created, or proceed to create your own blog with a name of your choice. Once we have some activity, the blogs will be linked on our home page along with recent content. In the future, I will be adding themes to allow members to further customize their blogs, and we will have a master list of all blogs so that tPF members can see them all on one page.

To add a blog, select "My Sites" from the top navigation bar, and then click on the "Create a New Site" link.

If you create a blog, please feel free to share the link in this thread.

As always, I welcome your feedback and thank you for your contributions!

Thank you, ADMIN!

By the way, to anyone about to read my blog, I was just testing things out. Random thoughts a-plenty posted there. I'll probably be deleting them and putting something serious and well thought out.

Members, blogs may now be accessed through the navigation bar at the top of the forum. Additionally, links to individual blogs are found on the home page just above the forum statistics.

Happy Blogging!

Thanks Admin. Like Adelaide, my blog was also for testing purposes. I will be deleting it.

Thanks.

Looks good. I see existing blogs, see how I can add replies. Etc.

How does one create their own blog as part of tPf blogs? I don't see that.

Chris

Thanks for thanks but again how does one go to tPf blogs and create one's own blog??? Several have created blogs for testing purposes, could you explain how???

Why, you already do that here and get away with it.

And another thread bites the dust with your belligerence, marie, applause!

I created a blog but I don't see it listed under adelaide's and chris' blogs on that main page. I can see it of course when I click on my name because it's mine but can anybody else see it?

I don't think the mods have admin access. You'll have to ask @ADMIN (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=1)

Oh ok thanks. It really could just be my fault.

Chris

That may be it, admin has to add your blog. The URL comes up fine.

Yea, the OP says "If you create a blog, please feel free to share the link in this thread." Sp maybe that's it.

@Chloe (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=565) Thank you for adding your blog!

I did ask for new blog links to be posted here so that members would be able to access them before I make the manual additions.

I will now add it to the tPF home page and our central list of blogs.

IMPress Polly, once you get yours up, post in this thread and ask to have it added to main tPF blog page.

To attract new membership, focusing the blogs on Politics, along with adding the all-important Tags, is a FAB idea!

IF y'all (Admin/Mods/VIPs) have someone that knows all about "tags," you may want to enlist their aid,
for it's the cheapest, fastest way to being "seen" on such as Google Search.

Great addition to the site. Kudos!

It may be a few days before I find the time to add an entry, but just wanted to get it on the roster.

IMPress Polly
08-27-2013, 06:29 AM
Could you add it to the list?

Anyway, I do have one more small issue: I've made my first post now, but had major problems with the spacing, as you can see. The spacing appears correctly on the edit page, yet when I publish it, it comes out with half the paragraphs lacking separation regardless of what I do. How do I solve that?

(Anyway, if you don't like my header folks, don't worry: I'll probably change it from time to time.)

Chris
08-27-2013, 06:36 AM
IMPress Polly, you need to mention admin: ADMIN.

Yea the spacing is strange on your blog post. I'd have to see text entered to say for sure what it is. One thing you can do to force spacing between paragraphs, is switch from the Visual editor to the Text editor -- there are two tabs above editor to the right. You use the text editor to enter HTML code. Then between paragraphs put the following HTML line break code:

<br/>

Omg, I figured it out, Chris! I am SO proud of myself right now.:smiley: Everyone else could probably have figured this sort of thing out in a heartbeat, but I'm TERRIBLE with computer code and technical stuff like that, so for me this was a big accomplishment. The precise code you gave me didn't do anything, but I fiddled around with it and figured out that <div> has to come before each paragraph break. When I entered a simple <br> after that, it worked on all the paragraphs. So check it out now, peeps: it now looks like it should. (http://thepoliticalforums.com/blogs/monkeyqueen/2013/08/27/why-everyone-should-be-poor/) :cool2:

Anyway, @ADMIN (http://thepoliticalforums.com/members/1-ADMIN), could you add my blog (located here: http://thepoliticalforums.com/blogs/monkeyqueen/ ) to the official roster please? I'd appreciate it!

I used to have a blog page over on DCJ before I got banned. My first entry was on why I hate blogs, reposted here with permission from... me:

(nothing is meant toward you or your blog, IMPress Polly )

I don't get blogs.

I really fucking don't. Someone sets up a blog....

Blog - it sounds fucking stupid already. Blog... blog. What a fucking stupid name.

Anyway, here's that... blog. Someone decides to ramble on about something. Anything. 3 or 4 paragraphs of someone menstruating their fucking opinion, on and on.

Who fucking cares?

Who sits there and reads blogs? Like anybody can be glued to some random fucks opinion. At least with message boards, you can interact. Like this jerkoff's opinion is something special, and mine isn't. This asswipe has a blog. That validates his or her opinion.

Fuck off.

Yeah, I know - some blogs.... blog.... anyway, some blogs have spots where you can leave a message. Big fucking deal, I'm one reaction of many. And you have to wait a fucking week until that jackass gets back to you - if he ever does.

If I'm digging around and I see blogs, fuck it. I move on.

Chris
08-27-2013, 04:16 PM
Captain, I thought you were asking for blogs?

To me a blog is anything you want it to be. No one need ever read or comment on it.

I've got a case of out-of-control blog spamming to report. The following author...

nixFieldKnike (IP: 60.173.26.35 , 60.173.26.35)

...has sent me 177 spam messages just since this morning. None of them have made it through my screening process of course, but it's completely ridiculous to be getting messages about new comments awaiting my approval from the same person that are all spam literally every few minutes all day. I can't begin to sort through this massive a quantity of messages, and especially not if I'm going to be getting these by the hundreds every day. I need to be able to ban accounts by screen name or IP or something. How can I do this?

Polly, try this. (http://akismet.com/wordpress/)

I am not sure if there is a free version or not. Sorry.

The internet should not be anonymous. It encourages cowardice hey. I would like to see all IPs linked to a user log in that is controlled by the State. Anything you post on the internet should be able to be traced back to poster.

And I have no idea.
