View Full Version : Playoff Pick'em - Wildcard Round

Captain Obvious

Pick the winners.

Saturday, January 7
Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans, 4:30 p.m., NBC
Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints, 8 p.m., NBC
Sunday, January 8
Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants, 1 p.m., FOX
Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos, 4:30 p.m., CBS

Bungles/Texans - tough one. I didn't think much of the Texans at the beginning of the season so I'll go with the (ugh) Bungles.

Saints - Lions made a nice run though.

Falcons - how the fuck did the Gnats make the playoffs?

Steelers - Rumor has it that the practice squad only is making the journey to Mile High.

Conley

Who is qbing for the Texans these days? Schaub is out for the year right?

Mister D
01-02-2012, 08:11 PM
The Lions game won't even be watchable I fear.

Captain Obvious
01-02-2012, 08:12 PM
Who is qbing for the Texans these days? Schaub is out for the year right?

Some guy named Harry.

Which is partly the reason I'm going with the bungles however the Texans have had some success without Schaub.

Conley
01-02-2012, 08:24 PM
Harry?

Yeah, I didn't think Schaub was that great and he's been out a while. It takes a lot for me to pick the Bungles in the regular season much less the playoffs. But they went 9-7 in the toughest division so I'll go with them.

Captain Obvious
01-02-2012, 08:26 PM

Yeah, I hear that.

The Steelers have been known to play down to their opposition, struggling at times with the stains (twice), chefs and indy, but we kicked the fucking shit out of Cincy last time around.

I still think they're an improved team though, their QB has shown a pretty solid outing this year.

Conley
01-02-2012, 08:37 PM
Yeah Dalton seems decent, right? Plus they got at least one 1st round pick from the Raiders for Palmer.

MMC
01-03-2012, 10:16 AM
I'll go with The Bengals over Houston.
Saints over Lions.
I am going with the Giants over the Falcons. One the Giants are at home. Two the Giants are use to playing in the cold and snow or Ice. The Falcons play in a Dome.
Steelers over Denver.

Conley
01-03-2012, 10:17 AM
Looks like the Chargers are going to keep their coach and GM. I'm done with them. What bull...I hope they move to L.A. and lose every game. They deserve it!

Headlines today for Chicago was.....Starts With Martz. Radio stations filled with peeps that want Sleepy's Losing Coaches gone. Martz, Marenelli, and of Course Sleepy himself. Unfortunately that won't happen. Now The M&M Peanuts. Thats a different story. We are all hoping they will be gone!

Conley

Tice got promoted to OC...IMO not good. He and Lovie will both be gone next year unless they can work some magic. Who will be the new GM? Usually the new GM wants to hire his own HC.

Now thats a joke.....Mike Tice. An offensive line Coach is going to be the OC. We all see how Tice Worked out as a Head Coach in Minnesota.. Another of Sleepy's losers. Hopefully you are right and Sleepy will be gone. He doesnt know talent either. Which is why he keeps calling on all those back-ups that played for St Louis when he was there. Course Defense was suppose to be Sleepy's Specialty. He must have forgotten all that Dungy taught him when he was showing all that passion for the game.

On another Note Fisher interviewed with St. Louis.....and now has a second interview back with Miami.

Conley
01-07-2012, 09:17 AM
Would you want Fisher coaching your team? He had a long time to get it done in Tenn but never did.

Maybe he will have success in Miami and the AFCE...Brady can't play forever and the Jets might continue to flail.

Because the Stillers and the Bungles hate each other! Yinz can't be using Stiller stuff to cheer for the Bungles!

MMC
01-07-2012, 06:02 PM
I have no idea either.....is that suppose to be some Pennsylvania Dialect or something. I never heard those in Philly say such. So I couldnt say.

But these two announcers are boring. I am surprised they didnt have Collinworth show up to announce for them. Not that he is any better. But I like hearing how he don't know shit except for what he reads.

Damn Interception.....thats why they are called the Bungles!

Conley

Had the game tied.....there was no reason to start throwing the ball. Just go in tied at the half. The OC and HC should have known better. End of the game I could see such but not now.

What really sucks is letting Bob Costas chirp in all due to him being a TV personality. WTF......Charles Barclay??? Truly this is uncivilized!

Bengals got blown out. Lions just scored and Saints turned the ball over. I'd like to see Detroit win.

Captain Obvious

I picked the Saints, still early. I would rather see the Lions win though, I'm generally a dog guy.

Yeah, fucking bengals. Looks like them Stillers are heading to Gillette Stadium after tomorrow's scrimmage.

Conley
01-07-2012, 08:48 PM
But like you say the Stillers play down to their competition, and Ben suffered a set back to the ankle, right?

Mister D

Important goal line stand there.

Captain Obvious
01-07-2012, 10:49 PM
Yeah, watching the game and I really thought the Lions were going to hang in there. Saints are pulling it away now.

Even that last Lions TD was a bad call, his knee was clearly down before the ball hit the pylon.

Mister D

Yeah, watching the game and I really thought the Lions were going to hang in there. Saints are pulling it away now.

Even that last Lions TD was a bad call, his knee was clearly down before the ball hit the pylon.

I thought so too but I guess their inclination is not to contradict the refs if it's not glaringly obvious.

Mister D
01-07-2012, 10:53 PM
This is a big deficit. I think this is over.

Captain Obvious
01-07-2012, 10:54 PM
They reviewed the play and the refs make the final call.

Looking at the replay, his knee was clearly down before that pylon budged - I'm pretty stunned that the call wasn't overturned.

Not sure that it matters at this point though, the Saints are running away with the game.

Conley
01-07-2012, 10:55 PM
I actually thought it was a TD, but yeah, doesn't matter and it seems it's over.

Captain Obvious
01-07-2012, 10:58 PM
Lions TD.

And they played a clip from Detroit Rock City heading into the commercial.

4th and inches twice and they sneak it instead of giving it to their stud RB. Left points off the board, not good for ATL.

That was a weird play call. 1st and ten and first play of the game. QB runs with it?

Conley
01-08-2012, 04:53 PM
They run the QB a lot because Tebow just can't throw well. Mostly they have a good ground game (RB included) and play great defense. Home field advantage helps too.

Mister D

Wow Denver won eh.....So how many bombs did Tebow throw out of the 8 passes he threw for the game. How many times did the alleged QB run with the ball? Ah.....I see Shannon Sharpe can't get his tongue out of Tebow's ass. Thats not surprising coming from the Ex Denver Bronco.

Looks Like Denver has Brady and bunch.....up next.

I didnt see much of the game except for some highlights. So Pittsburgh came back only to lose it in overtime. Ah.....I see, Tebow won on a fluke. Thats not surprising. Did he come out after the game and explain how God is into football again? I would have asked him how does it feel to be one of the worst QB's in the History of Football and be able to win. Right there in front of National Coverage.

Sure hope he goes into next game thinking thats all he needs to throw the ball. 10 passes and 5 of them being the bomb. Run Tebow run.....when that spear comes in while he is putting his head down and laying on the ground where there is no resistence. Will be the end of Tebow running with the ball. Soon it will happen.

CL is right.....Big Ben caused his team to lose. It was obvious he couldnt move with the ball. Coach should have put Batch in. Then Denver wouldn have been able to T-off on the QB. As Batch could run with the ball as well as throw. Big Ben should have never played that Cleveland game. Oh welll, the AFC is looking weaker than I thought.

Aaaaah.....I knew as soon as Denver won the Media would all start talking shit. Even worse for Pittsburgh as they lost to Tebow throwing......guess what.....the bomb, to win the game. IN OVERTIME! Nothing like handing it to him on a silver platter. He would have thunk that Tebow would do anything like that.

It's like CL said.....BR is who caused his team to lose a game they shouldn't have. Allow their defense to tee-off all cuz Pittsburghs QB can't even move around to throw the ball. HC should have made the call and putch Batch in until Batch proved he couldnt do anything.

Despite the Steelers losing a couple key players off the line. The other thing I noticed. Harrison talked all that shit but sure didnt do his homework. Tebow got on the outside all game long. As Harrison would rush and collapse the end and get caught up. Do I consider what Tebow did as anything that was great or above average of any other Rookie QB's. Nope! Run the ball, throw the bomb, hope and pray just to have a chance.

All questioned if they Steelers could play man to man with Denvers recievers. The answer was.....cover two or be able to cover man to man coverage. Like KC did with Denver. Denver's Defense is over-rated on the rush. Any QB that can move around or is mobile makes Denvers Defense look like what it really is.....average!

Ike Taylor (24) was terrible for Pittsburgh. I would blame the defense more than the offense. No way should they have given up 30 points to Denver's offense. You're right about Harrison too.

True it was more of the defense. But if BR is healthy and can step up into the pocket and move around to find open recievers the complexion of the game is way different. Just like it was when BR was healthy. Bottomline instead of showing everybody how tuff he is.....he should have been thinking about the Team and not Himself!

He was definitely off, no doubt about it. I don't know if Charlie Batch is any better though. That guy is ancient, I remember when he used to play for the Lions. Is he any good? What happened to their other backup Dixon?

They had a lot of injuries on defense too.

edit: Oh, Dixon had his knew blown out and went on IR, otherwise he would have been the backup.

That Giant game was atrocious. As D called them, the Falcoons, will go down in history as the team with the worse defeat in a playoff game. 2 pts! The QB Ryan choked. It was like his head was not in the game except the very beginning. He couldnt read the Defense at all.

I figured the Atl Defense was week even tho they had A-Man.

I am not saying Batch would have done any better but he should have been given the chance to prove if he was not up to the task or to prove he could win himself.

Cap'n is probably bummed but I think they've been to Super Bowls in two of the last three (soon to be four) years, so I can't feel too sorry for him. MMC is no doubt livid with the Tebow. Imagine if Tebow were a Mooslim instead of a Fundie!

That's like feeling sorry for a Yankees fan.

Man - the Steelers really shit the bed.

It's one thing to lose as a 9 point favorite, but the worst thing is that the Steelers may go down in history of reviving the whole Tebow bullshit thing.

I was hoping they'd win just so Denver will go another year without addressing the need at QB. As soon as they get a good QB that team is going to be really good, though I don't think McGahee has much left in his tank so they'll probably need an RB too.

I cringed when McGahee fumbled. That was huge.
