I figured it'd be ok if I start a new thread for the last game of the year.

Let's go G-Men!

I will probably be watching on tape-delay, at least partly (until I ffwd through the Madonna garbage) so I might have to stay off the forum to avoid spoilers.

My two sons will be watching at my house with their friends :)

I really hope this last game is a good one. I suspect that it will be. The 1st quarter will set the tone for the game.

I don't see how it can live up to the last time they played in the Super Bowl (with Tyree's helmet catch) but it would be awesome.

Amazing play.

Mister D

Wow I don't remember that at all. For a few years I didn't even watch the games.

Conley
02-05-2012, 11:10 AM
That was maybe five years ago? New England hadn't lost a game all year, they were 19-0 and huge favorites. It was awesome to see the Patriot fans so sad.

I think I did watch that game and expected a blowout but the Giants hung in. I just don't remember that catch. Did the Packers lose a game before they lost the Giants? They did, right? 15-1?

Conley
02-05-2012, 11:28 AM
Yep, they had only lost once all year. The Giants have had that knack.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 11:29 AM
Yeah, that's why I'd be afraid to touch this game outside of those box score pools.

Im gonna watch I think the Patriots win this one big

I admit I am a fan love brady. He was my role model when I played.

Mister D

Not sure who I want to root for. I may just watch as a neutral observer.

We are having a couple friends over. The menu is Salisbury Steak, Asparagus, little red taters, and chocolate pie for dessert. Everyone is for the Giants, but we don't really care that much.

Mister D

Mmmm I haven't had Salisbury steak in ages. I just had some asparagus last night and got the usual ammonia odor when I went to the bathroom.

I should root for the home team but I'm kind of a jerk so I don't obligated.

In case the game does turn into a blowout they are running marathons of some of my favorite documentaries.

I've got the Johnny Cash show from 1969 for halftime.

Oh man, that sounds like a great meal. I haven't had Salisbury steak in a long time either. Goes without saying the halftime show is 100% better too.

AS Conley mentioned, that beats what they were planning for halftime.

Having my ritual scotch now. I'll have plenty of time to relax before the game. I'll get out of church around 3 I guess and should be done with dinner by 4ish.

Mister D

Can't wait to see the hilarious Super Bowl commercials! :moron:

Conley
02-05-2012, 01:07 PM
Haha, that smiley is disturbing. I might need to hunt down a beverage for the game today myself. It's on at 3 here I guess, it's a weird time. Way after lunch but it lasts so long it goes right though dinner. I'd prefer a 6 o'clock start like the East Coast.

The Patriots cut this poor bastard the day before the Super Bowl!

The New England Patriots have consistently made roster moves the day before games this season. Now, in a tough blow for receiver Tiquan Underwood, they've made one the night before the Super Bowl.

The team released Underwood on Saturday, and promoted defensive lineman Alex Silvestro off the practice squad. The move was not discipline-based, but a pure football decision based on needs specific to the Super Bowl XLVI game plan, according to a source.

The hair is a fireable offense but that's just a cold move man!

Mister D
02-05-2012, 01:15 PM
First of all, how does he get his helmet on? Secondly, was that hairstyle ever cool? Kid N Play were kind of cheesy even when people liked them.

Anyway, yeah, that's pretty cold-blooded.

I try to stock up on beer on Saturdays so I don't have to make unplanned trips on Sundays.

Dinner and a game? What's better?

Conley
02-05-2012, 01:21 PM
 Nice guys do finish last, it's true.

Well I'd rather cook before the game if I'm going to be making anything that takes time. It's tough to watch and cook at the same time. I don't think I'll be making anything so no big loss.

Mister D

Shall I dare turn it on now?

Conley

Now is probably good. Thanks for reminding me, I lost track of time.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 06:21 PM
Ah, I put it on mute. Still some nonsense to get through. I didn't realize there were so many white guys on the Patriots. That may sway me.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 06:33 PM
Eli looks relaxed.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 06:43 PM
That was a weird call and it it resulted in a safety. I've never seen that before.

Conley
02-05-2012, 06:44 PM
Sorry, got caught up in work and have it recording. I'm going to start it in a few and obviously be behind so I will be checking in here most likely after the game. I might be able to catch up to live depending on whether or not the OL wants to watch the halftime show.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 06:46 PM

Mister D

It's close but not particularly exciting. :undecided:

Conley
02-05-2012, 07:49 PM

Conley

Yeah, I hope MMC is ok too. He logged in and must have seen my post wondering if his mom was ok but I haven't heard a word from him.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 09:02 PM
They just blew a big opportunity to take the lead there.

Conley
02-05-2012, 09:08 PM
Yep, Brady got greedy there. He was trying to make something out of nothing, like suing a homeless man!

Conley
02-05-2012, 09:10 PM
Eli is so sexy. Look at that throw.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 09:26 PM
Brady made two bad decisions under pressure. Granted, it's easy for me to armchair QB but that's why I do it. He threw the ball away when he should just have taken a sack.

Conley
02-05-2012, 09:29 PM
Huge play for the Pats there. They're just flat out good.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 09:30 PM
What did you think of that interference call? Or lack thereof I should say.

Conley
02-05-2012, 09:32 PM
What did you think of that interference call? Or lack thereof I should say.

I thought it should have been called but it wasn't a terrible miss. I haven't been watching the game closely but my impression is the refs have done a good job.

Sweet, G-men with the ball and a chance to win.

WHAT A CATCH!

I don't know the rules well enough but that's the game. Sometimes a call doesn;t go your way.

Tyree's tie was atrocious.

G-men can take the lead with a FG

Conley
02-05-2012, 09:44 PM
Brilliant move by Belicheck. Exactly what I would have done.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 09:45 PM

Conley

Yeah, wild wild stuff.

Conley
02-05-2012, 09:51 PM
This is a great ending. Any other team I'd say it was over.

Mister D
02-05-2012, 09:54 PM
I knew enough to not count the Giants out. Part of me feels like they don;t deserve to be there for some reason but they did it again.

Well, I'm off to bed. It's been a slow day here but I expected that.

Conley
02-05-2012, 09:55 PM

OK man, have a good one.

Conley
02-06-2012, 09:04 AM
Hahah, sweet for me, bad for them. Did you see the difficult catch Welker (New England) tried to make with around 4 minutes to go? It seems he is really blaming himself, and others are too. I thought it was a tough play, he had to spin his whole body around and jump as well. The team lost the game, not that one play. I thought Brady could have played better too.

Mister D
02-06-2012, 09:18 AM
Those two dropped balls on that very last drive hurt.

Conley
02-06-2012, 09:24 AM
Yeah, Deion Branch and Hernandez. There was enough blame to go around IMO.

Mister D
02-06-2012, 09:33 AM
Agreed. Terrible start too with that safety.

Captain Obvious
02-06-2012, 06:17 PM
a) 4th quarter - exciting game, first 3 quarters - not so much
b) Commercials sucked (as usual). Does anyone even expect SB commercials to be good anymore? I haven't seen a really good SB commercial in maybe 10 years.
c) Not a big Madonna fan but I'm thinking - "it will be cool to hear some of the old 80's shit I heard a bazillion times during the 80's. Right - I didn't recognize one tune, not one fucking tune. I don't know who those two meatheads were either - VIP or something like that, I was calling them the Cheech brothers. The only decent thing about the show is the acrobatic gay guys, that was the best part of the performance.

Who the fuck was that big black dude singing?

Captain Obvious

I had to listen to a half hour of my dad telling me how obscene Madonna is, then they watched the show and were surprised on how good they thought she was. If I would have told them this, they're heads would still be spinning.

My comment was "I guess you don't like Howard Stern either", sarcastically - then his commercial came on. Great timing.

Now there's a show that I'm going to try to watch - at least for a little bit. Stern can get pretty abrasive with people who think they are more talented than they really are.

Conley
02-06-2012, 06:37 PM
Yeah, it's tough to be obscene when you're 53. Her "dance partners / rappers" did their best though.

I like Stern but I don't think I can bring myself to watch that show. You're right, the commercials were all pretty bad and the one for that show was no exception. Stern probably loved playing with the fire hose though.
