What is bigotry?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry

Are bigots racist? Are racists bigots? Both? Neither?

If someone posts only threads about black crimes and/or black social problems, are they bigots?

If someone refers to people, friends as "my black friend" or "black people" instead of "my friend" or just "people", are they bigots?

Is it bigotry to take sides in a debate or issue primarily because one of the parties in the debate is the same color/race as you?

Is "bigotry" a subjective or objective term?

Is it immoral, unethical, illegal or otherwise wrong to be a bigot? Should it be?

Bigotry and Racism are a mindset based on fears and fears of the unknown.

Like Oprah said Generations 'marinated' in racism will need to die out for discrimination to end across the world.

Don't worry ... we're getting there one way or another, it won't take much longer.

First it's Fear ... Second it's their own insecurity that leased to Hate.

I also hate it when people suggest that I wouldn't say the world 'black.'

I'm not going to say 'African-American.' It's too many syllables and it gets repetitive saying it every time. Besides, the time is only for individuals who are actually from Africa.

... after all ... how many times a day you have to refer to someones color like Black or African-American, when it's just easier you call them by their name or call them Ass-Hole

Like so many other words co opted by progressives bigot does not mean what bigot once meant. If it can be claimed that if you hire a friend who is white instead of a stranger who is black you are a bigot the word only means what the thought police want it to mean, nothing more nor less.

The biggest problems facing America right now are the Democrat racialists and reverse-racism coming from the Trayvon Martin "Justice" crowd, "Polar Bear Hunting" only being one of the many results from this terrible movement.

True bigotry and whites-hating-blacks racism for the most part is dead, (Yes, there are some people who are still racist, and bigoted, but not nearly in the high numbers we see in American history) but there's a sweeping movement of blacks who think they need revenge for some perceived injustice (400 years of slavery, blah blah blah, we've seen the posts from Cigar, you all know what I'm talking about) and these are the people we need to truly be worried about.

The reverse racism, and the racialists who use the racism to fuel their own political agenda.

That's the elephant in the room, folks. And if you're not an American you still have stuff to worry about:

To many questions is depends. Depends of the context of the sentence. If it is necessary to say that your friend is black, Asian, Mexican,... then there is no bigotry, if there is for other reasons, maybe there is bigotry, maybe not, the case should be checked in particular.

About the first question only posting about black crimes and black problems, maybe there is some bigotry/racism against them but depends a lot of how is written, if there is some intent to criminalize all blacks or something like that. So, again, it depends.

In conclusion, there is no easy answer.

Bigotry is relatively subjective, but I would say that with some data could be considered objective. But again, it depends on many things. Everything in things related to society depends on thousands of factors and there is no direct answer like in science.

When my daughter was in high school one of her good friends was a black girl, who she has stayed in contact with. She would come to our house and my daughter would go to hers. Her father was the P A L officer in the Jacksonville Sheriffs Dept and her mother was the head of Head Start. The girl had two siblings, a sister and a brother, both older. The brother was away at college and the sister was in a local JC. At any rate everyone got along famously except for the sister. She made it very plain and open that she did not like white people and did not like my daughter in her house. When my daughter went over there the sister would make lunch for her and her sister and tell my daughter to get her own. Now, you might say that was because she was only concerned about her sister and I would say, being involved in the situation, that you were full of shit. Even the mother recognized the issue and we decided if the sister were home not to let our daughter go visit.

African Americans are the most racist people in America today as a group. There are of course racist whites but nowhere near the numbers of blacks who exhibit racist behavior every day. Chris Rock has said on national tv that he does not like white people and wouldn't care if they did not come to his shows. For that he is applauded by the audience. What would happen do you think if Jim Carey for example said he didn't like black people and wished they would stay away from his movies?

Bigotry is when you take the rude behavior of one person and generalize it to an entire class of human beings.

Are bigots racist? Are racists bigots? Both? Neither? Bigots may also be racists. Racists may be also be bigots. Bigotry may be defined as showing intolerance towards those who hold different opinions from themselves. Bigotry may also be synonymous with racism. Racists believe one race is superior to all others.

If someone posts only threads about black crimes and/or black social problems, are they bigots? This may indicate racism or paranoia.

If someone refers to people, friends as "my black friend" or "black people" instead of "my friend" or just "people", are they bigots? It depends on the context. If the discussion is race neutral and there is no need to distinguish race for any reason, then they may be race conscious, race unfamiliar or racist. Bigotry would not necessarily enter into it if defined as opinion intolerance, but if defined as race antipathy, then not necessarily. On the other hand if the conversation is race specific, it may be appropriate and therefore neither racist or bigoted.

Is it bigotry to take sides in a debate or issue primarily because one of the parties in the debate is the same color/race as you? No, bigotry is also defined as simply as intolerance of opinions different than your own. It depends on your definition. If you side on the basis of race, you are likely a racist.

Is "bigotry" a subjective or objective term? Depends whether you are the accuser or the accused.

Is it immoral, unethical, illegal or otherwise wrong to be a bigot? Should it be? It is never illegal unless acted upon. Beyond that context is everything. Condemning people who advocate harm might be considered bigoted, but neither immoral, unethical or wrong. Otherwise, I suspect it depends on your moral compass. To hate people for no reason but the color of their skin is minimally ignorant. If that translates to actively attempting to negatively impact the lives of people for whom you might have intolerance, it may well be immoral, unethical and wrong or even illegal.

I think that it sucks that a group if people can do a certain thing but if a liberal can find one individual from that group that does not fit the stereotype then it is not PC to be critical vecause you are stereotyping.

I should be able to say that pommies are wankers. Sure some may not be but you should still be able to say it because it is true unless you are being hysterical and pedantic. You should be able to say that Australians are obnoxious. Some like me are not but as far as culture goes, Australians are a little uncivilized really.

edit- I think most bigots will conceed that exceptions occur. Not all pommies are wankers. But pommies are still wankers.
